My bad, in 1972 they were the Texas Rangers. I think Ted Williams was fed up with the meddling pre-Steinbrenner owner, Bob Short, and quit after that year. He did great in 1969: 86-76 and had them in 4th place out of the 10 team league. More meddling = 1970 was 70-92, the 63-96 in 1971. There was no subway, only 10,000 parking spaces, and 8000/game attendance impaired revenue, which the owner mismanaged anyway. Ted Williams would have excelled with Kasten. But Ted never really had good pitching, anf Frank seems to hate all pitchers.
