Internet Explorer 6 & 7 are not supported
« Topic Start: September 26, 2011, 01:06:14 PM »
Internet Explorer 7 and earlier are NOT supported on this site.  Do not submit problems if you are using Internet Explorer 7 or earlier as they will not be addressed.  WNFF.net recommends Mozilla Firefox 3.6 or later, any version of Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 8 or later, or the latest version of Safari or Opera.

Chief, I started a poll in WPA's 2011 MVP thread, but the voting results are not displaying properly.  I voted for Morse, but the vote tally is not aligned with the name on the poll.

Looks okay on the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, and IE.  I'll download an XP iso and toss it onto a virtual machine to check out, but even if I'm able to duplicate the problem, the best solution is still to install Firefox or Chrome.  I'm assuming you're at work and so upgrading IE is not an option, but you shouldn't even need admin rights to install Chrome or Firefox

I don't mean to be a jerk about it but I just can't justify tearing up the forum source to accommodate a 5-year old browser with a horrible track record and vanishingly small market share.

Down to what, 75%?  BTW, my work machine is IE8 also, I'm not going to mess with that.

Anyway, here's what it looks like to me.

You're off by half - ALL versions of IE combined are under 50% market share now (under 40% by some estimates), but my point was that IE7 is well under 10%.  You were using IE7 at the time you posted that, ergo I assumed you were only experiencing the issue on IE7.  "Anomaly" is a fitting description for your picture because I haven't been able to duplicate the issue on any modern browser.

Try clearing cookies/browser cache is really the only suggestion I've got outside of upgrading IE or using a different browser.  If the guys who created SMF can't make IE7 work, I sure as hell am not going to have much of a chance.

I am getting this both at home and work.  Work is IE7, can't recall what home is.  Sure, I can change home and probably will.

According to the logs, it looks like you're on IE7 at home as well.  Updating to 8 or 9 will probably take care of it (or using Firefox or Chrome), but I still think clearing the browser cache is at least worth a shot (or try pressing CTRL+F5).  SMF has a lot of built-in workarounds for older browser like IE7 (and even 6 :spaz: ) but there's only so much you can do for such a poor piece of software.  Like I said, it's nothing personal, but I have to draw the line somewhere.  Only so many hours in a day, not my full-time job, etc. etc. ;)

Chief, for whatever reason I can't see the options above the forum. For example, as you can see in this photo, Home is highlighted, but things like messages, profile, etc. is all hidden unless you click on them. Is this how it's supposed to look?

This is using IE 7.0.

CTRL-F5, if that doesn't work, clear all web cache/cookies/etc.  If that still doesn't work, I'll look into it.  This is how it should look:

Deleted all the cookies and old files and tried the CTRL-F5 and neither did the trick.

^^second one.  I don't have a copy of IE7 anywhere near me, so I can't even try to duplicate your issue, but I know tomterp uses IE 7 and he hasn't mentioned anything like this, so I'm guessing it's some kind of restriction imposed by your employer.

Oddly enough, Java is enabled.

Just finished installing an XP VM with crusty ass IE6 on it.  I'll update to IE7 and see what happens, but I doubt it's going to reproduce the issue.  You could try a complete reset of IE7, if you don't have any personalized settings that you're attached to.
