Shrug.  Personal preference.  And mine is not to die.  Nothing breaks immersion like being immortal.

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with you exactly. I didn't know horses can outrun them. But I got Kyne's Peace before I would have had the money for a horse anyway.

So what you're saying is you'll dump dozens of hours into this game, but you're too impatient to spend 5 minutes walking out of the dungeon with all your loot?  Hell, you'd probably spend more time making multiple trips :P (or selling the loot, for that matter)

Heck yeah. I only get to play an hour on weeknights, if I get to play at all. My 500 hours will be spread out.  :D Walking encumbered takes forever.

Quote
Those potions are only good for 50-60 extra points even at the higher levels, and you can't stack them.  Horse FTW, IMO.  That said, I usually don't bother with either option and just drop my least valuable loot. I also tend to store all my loot from each "stage" of a dungeon in a chest or barrel near the beginning of that section to minimize walking time when I'm leaving.

Yeah, I don't get over-encumbered too often anymore, I'm more selective of what I take back.

The bolded is a great idea. This might be my new approach.

Do chests respawn their contents every few days like they did in Oblivion?

I've actually stored stuff in a chest, then came back later to get it. I have a good memory.  :)

Dungeons that you clear will respawn after a while, yes - I haven't noted exactly how long - but I'm not sure if it disappears loot that you stored there.  I do remember leaving a bunch of stolen goods in a barrel in one of the bandit camps near Whiterun, and it was still there when I returned some time later.

I went back to a dungeon several days later and got a set of armor that I had stored there. They bandits did respawn, so I had to fight them again. I don't really have to do that so much anymore, as my stamina has increased so much that I can carry quite a bit. I also drop loot that I don't really need.

Interesting.  1.2 auto-detects "ultra" settings for my Radeon 5850.  1.1 always auto-detected "high".

I *am* at work, hence why I can't answer your question...  I don't think Skyrim would run very well over remote desktop :P

Checked mine before work, if it had patched, it was still recommending high for me.  So either mine hadn't yet patched or it's because of our different CPUs.

Until 1.2, my copy had the arrow keys mapped to inventory/magic/level up. Wasd will be simpler but I need to adjust.

oh they must have had them mapped like the four options in the tab menu.  i was using ipm/ for that.  I had heard people were having trouble re mapping keys in 1.1 though

I was using the arrow keys after i/p/m.

Unrelated quesetion. How long do you need to sleep to get the maximum rest bonus? I know the benefit varies if you are sleeping in your own bed or near your wife but am not clear on the duration of the sleep and duration of the effect.

I don't think it matters...  I've slept one hour in my breezewood home or inn beds and get "well rested" (10%).  Same with dungeon beds for "rested" status (5%).  I wasn't aware that having a wife conferred an extra bonus.

I usually end up sleeping 8-10 hours anyway if I'm bothering at all b/c it's night time and I'm waiting for the shops to re-open

With a spouse, you earn the Lover's Comfort bonus when you sleep near them which increases speed of skill mastery by 15% for 8 hours.

Right, so 5% more than the well rested bonus.

I question the usefulness of those anyway...  I used the rest bonus a lot early on, but now that my quests are spread out all over the map, resting seems pointless as the trip from my home to a quest destination usually surpasses the 8 hour bonus.  I'll take an hour nap in a dungeon if I see a bed (which is funny) and get the 5% bonus for the rest of the dungeon, but trying to get the 10% bonus from a home or inn often doesn't work out anymore.

I've also read that that using the Lover stone (+15% learning to all skills) prevents you from getting the rest bonuses, whereas the mage/warrior/thief stones (+20% to their specific 6 skills) do not.  Haven't verified that myself as I haven't found the Lover stone yet.

In Oblivion I had a cleared ruin that I would nap in until I bought a house. That was when you had to sleep to level up, though.
