I'm listening to branches come down and trying to figure out if I should drag out the generator now, or wait. I guess it doesn't matter. Dark now, dark later. Oh, crap... I barely have any gasoline.

I'm moving to San Diego

My last job took me there once a year for a conference, each time I would call my wife and ask her to remind me why we didn't live there.  She would respond by telling me to take a look at the real estate prices.

here's a nice 1,174 sq ft house for $475k:

Accuweather's Margusity on what's coming next:

Quote
2 clippers this weekend and perhaps 2 major snow events next week followed by one perhaps 2 major snowstorms second week of Feb.

I think we got about a quarter to half an inch of snow here in Richmond... mostly it's just been a mix of rain/snow/sleet all day long.

You guys up in DC stay safe!

Three Questions to Tell If I Have a Drinking Problem?
The Answer May Be More Simple Than You Think
By Bloody Mary, Webtender.com Guide
Updated August 18, 2009

1) Have you ever thought about Aqua Velva as a chaser?
2) Can you drive to the local ABC store without even thinking where it is?
3) Do you sit in the dark drinking and ranting on the Internet about a last place baseball team?

If you answer any of these questions yes...you have a problem.

This message brought to you by Baseball against Alcohol...remember Alcohol is bad except when you buy it from a vendor.

I would never buy a house in any such place anyway.

If I were to live in an expensive market, renting all the way.

Drinking is not only permissible but necessary at a time like this.

I've been out shoveling with my next door neighbor, taking care of half our neighborhood while they slept, for the last four hours. My back finally gave out, and he has to leave on a train at Union Station at 6:30am for Philly, and doesn't get back until 11pm tomorroow night. But one of our neighbors came home around 12:30. Left the office at 4:30. From Rockville to Falls Church, using 495, eight freaking hours. I could have walked there in that time.

I've read a few on the CWG blog that are still travelling after 7-8+ hours.

There are reports on WTOP of Abandoned cars on the highways!  Question:  WHERE DID YOU GO BY FOOT LAST NIGHT?!!!!!

Not sure when I got power back last night as I got under the covers with my MP3 player radio in my ear last night.  Woke up a few times during the night.  Cell Phone alarm woke me up.  Car is covered and the plow left a pile in front of the car, so I won't be getting to work today.

3 hour delay, but I don't have classes until 1 anyway, so that works for me.

We got like a foot of snow? Not sure exactly, I'm not very accurate when it comes to these things.

It wasn't bad from my bedroom down the stairs to my office, but the return trip was a nag after all those rum & cokes

Right. Like most of us (men), you drastically over-estimate length.

My wife's commute from Rockville to Gaithersburg (about 7 miles) was 5.5 hours.

my neighbor left arlington at 3:30, got home at 10, and promptly got stuck in the street driving up to her house, a few of us shoveled her out.

Shoveling is complete and melting is rapid, but we haven't seen a plow yet.
