How he looks is really irrelevant is it not? Doesn't it only matter how many runs end up on the board? So in that sense, he actually had a good outing.

Nope, 5 runners he allowed on base scored and are up on the board (this, you've now decided, is your standard).

Yeah if you are only looking at the earned runs. However, when you load up the bases twice with one out then some things can go wrong. Marquis is a mediocre pitcher but not a good one, more control can and should be expected from a sinker ball pitcher that pitches to contact...

Are you Mrs. Marquis???

This seemed like a suitable time to open a nice dry South African pinotage.  Roll 'em up Coffey.

These aren't the type of games that this team is built to win.

We are built to win well-pitched, good defensive games with timely offense sprinkled in.

These long drawn out horrible pitched, error-filled games are not games we excel in.

He was charged with 2 runs in 6 innings. That's a good outing. That isn't my standard, that is pretty much consistent throughout baseball.

Nope, he was charged with 5 runs, 2 earned.  In the box score tomorrow it will read:  R   ER
                                                                                                                    5    2
... because he gave up 5 runs.

I'm Mrs. Marquis because I don't continually make negative posts about every player on the team? I always figured that if I hated watching players or a team so much I just wouldn't watch. Seems to be the opposite for many on here.

I've never argued Marquis is really anything more than mediocre either. I'm merely bringing the non-dramatic rational side to the conversation.

That's not how it works.  Judging a pitcher strictly by results and not peripherals is not a good way to determine future success.  If you do only care about results you should not be using ERA, you should be using RA/9.

My mistake. Actually he was charged with 3.

IP    H    R    ER    BB    K    HR    WHIP    Season ERA
J. Marquis    5.0    8    3    2    4    5    1    1.39    3.53

That's a pretty ignorant statement. Yes, that is a fact. But do you honestly think he pitched well?

- Good job Coffey. Heart of the lineup coming up, tie it up.
