He'll be on the 40 man, and it'll be september, so he will stay to enjoy the celebration for making the playoffs.  as for the playoffs, he may want to get away to avoid the media, or he may want to stick around to support his teammates.  I don't think inactive players can be in the dugout during a game.

that sucks. maybe he can sneak into the bullpen. or maybe he'll kill the batboy and wear his skin.

Basically, he pitches there is 10 days or a week left in the season.

Adam Kilgore@AdamKilgoreWP    Davey opened his press conference by asking if anyone had any ideas to get Strasburg through October.

Does he have to be deactivated? Can't you just not play him?

I distinctly remember Jordan in the dugout last year - am I remembering that wrong?

I don't understand, aren't rosters expanded in September?

They'll leave him on the 25, for the bench. Currently his OBP is higher than any starting position player.

So the camera can be on him every pitch? Not a chance he's on the roster.

Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even watch the playoffs period. If he's the competitor he says he is, he won't be able to stomach watching it.

Basically the beat reporters don't question Rizzo they just push his agenda.

Fans were called naive for believing Nats ate promised anything beyond this year.

I don't get that part either.  They're saying the Nats are only going to be good this one season?  Really? What are they basing that on?

No. They're saying you're naive if you think shutting down Strasburg guarantees a window of winning in the future. Injuries could happen and this could just as easily be their only shot to win.

They didn't say a thing about the Nats being a one and done team.

Just that the fans are naive to think anything is promised beyond this season.

Stras has pitched 110.1 innings, leaving him with 69.2 left, and with 19 starts he's averaging just over 5.2 innings a game, so with the 180 inning pitch count he's on pace for twelve more games.

1 7/25
2 7/31
3 8/5
4 8/10
5 8/15
6 8/21
7 8/28
8 9/2
9 9/7
10 9/12
11 9/19
12 9/24

Leaving him one scheduled start short of the end of the season which would be on 9/29.  Lots of time between now and then, but if Stras can pitch right up to the end of the regular season I see no chance that Davey doesn't have him start at least a couple games in the playoffs.  (Unless of course Wang is back to his old self by then.)

With his average number of innings rising since 7/25, he's now on pace to hit 180 one game sooner than I'd projected.  Still, how in the hell can a few extra games have an impact on his career that would come close to justifying shutting him down for the playoffs.  This is high on the list of the dumbest decision ever made by a DC sports executive.  I know that Davey is on the right side of this, hopefully he can convince the Lerners to over-ride Rizzo.  Absolute blazing stupidity in the name of being smart.

LOL, yeah, we're all tards, we think EVERYTHING is rainbows and sunshine. With our history, what DC Fan thinks anything is  is promised? When did anyone say that?

Yeesh nice supposition there MLB. If anything we're resigned to the decision because there's nothing we can do about it and because we're sick of frickin hearing about it.

Pretty much everyone that has said its right to shut him down to create a bigger window. Which quite a few posters here have said.

Really? None of the guys you call up from the minors can play in the post season? Or do you mean the 40 man?

It's the hope of a larger window because it's prudent and conservative and cautious. There's nothing naive about that.

I don't remember hearing anyone in DC thinking it promises anything in the future

that seems to be the assumption among the talking heads on local radio- i still maintain it's akin to poking the baseball god in the eye with a pointy stick to shut a player down with the assumption that we'll be here again
