2011/12 off-season
« Topic Start: September 22, 2011, 09:56:34 PM »
Alright guys, i'm beaming with excitement after the phillies sweep, although i am also a realist so I thought i'd start this thread as countdown to opening day 2012.

Although most of you who join in the gameday threads can see i watch the games most nights, but being so far away, i am still not all that familiar with the contract situations of many players so let's use this as a wishlist thread - post your thoughts on who needs new contracts, who should be cut, and your roster for spring training.

Also let's try and predict what roster moves our cheap owners might make in free agency.

Too early, and MUCH too verbose title, so I shortened it ;)

I'll unlock this after the final game.  Remind me via PM if I forget.

Thanks to the Sox epic collapse I have a feeling there is no chance we outbid them(or the Yankees for that matter) for CJ Wilson.  Disappointing.

sox might pull back, from what I've read, their payroll is predicated on the revenue that a playoff run generates, this is two years in a row without that run

Red Sox don't have as unlimited a budget as the Yankees. Hopefully we can out bid them and CJ Wilson decides like Cliff Lee that the Yankees aren't his cup of tea.

I will keep my fingers crossed for Wilson or even Wandy, and even be happy with Edwin Jackson.

I would rather have Werth in center than DeJesus.

I think that the talk that the Dodgers can still afford a bunch of big contracts is BS!  Hence the Nats will at least call the Dodgers on the avaiability of Kemp.

I'm assuming the CF issue depends on a large part on when they think Harper is coming up.  if Harper is up in June-July, then they have a crowded OF (Harper RF, Morse LF, and some other OF that played CF for the first few months).

IMHO they need to get Morse back to 1st, which would give them the option of harper in LF, Werth in RF, and lead-off batter in CF.  That means trading LaRoche before the trade deadline and landing a top-notch CF in the off-season.

If they are thinking more like Morse-Werth-Harper, or Harper not being ready next season, then maybe they go for a short-term lead-off/CF option like Juan Pierre or DeJesus.

I think they are looking for a long term solution.

Couldn't we have had Wandy earlier this year?

Wandy is just like lannan except that he is older which makes him less valuable.

Well, it looks like Davey will indeed be back next year - the Indians just exercised Acta's option for next year.

Why would you bat LaRoche 4 and Morse 5?  I think that I'd reverse those.

I see no speedy high OBP leadoff guy or Prince Fielder/Albert Pujols.  :smh:

Well I don't think either is likely to happen... so, I just went with what I thought they'll probably throw out there to start the year.

I'm fully expecting Rizzo to make another splash.  I don't know if that comes by signing CC, Wilson, Reyes, or Fielder or they trade for someone but I think we'll see some big moves.  I don't think we'll see the payroll get over $75 mil next year unless they extend Zim this winter, too.
