That sucks that Lo Duca starts over Langerhans in left.  Langerhans is hot and he's a dramatically better fielder, there's just absolutely nothing that Paulie brings to left that Ryan doesn't do better.

Jim Bowden's need for validation?

Probably because they are trying to further showcase Lo Duca and that a lefty is pitching for SF although Langerhans played on Sunday against a lefty.

I'm never happy to see Belliard at first. Having Zimmerman back sure makes our lineup look better, though.

Zimmys back aw what a great site. Hopefully he makes this fun to watch.

Lo Duca in left? Put Langerhans in, his bat has been on fire (for langerhans)

F#cking Walnuts with another start.  How do you take Langey out?  He has been hitting great, and he is an outstanding defensive outfielder.

do you guys believe that LO DUCA and ESTRADA are the two worst off-season signings in the history of the Nationals?

i do.

Lo Duca's been hitting pretty well recently, too. Even though he's no where close to being the outfielder that Langerhans is, why not let Lo Duca up his minimal trade value a little more? Plus, we are talking about left field here.

Definitely.

Edit: I didn't read the whole question. I'm not sure if they are the worst in our history, but they're definitely the worst ones from this year.

We signed a relief pitcher before the 2005 season, he was supposed to be good but I don't think he had more than an inning or two before washing out with an injury.

EDIT:  I looked it up, Antonio Osuna, $800,000.

You were a proponent of the Lo Duca signing at the time, no?

I think the Dmitri Young $10 Million extension might have been one of our worst signings too.

BTW, ZIMMERMAN IS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

meanwhile, the mutts are blowing a 3 run lead in the 9th. bases loaded no outs. 5-3.

Yeah, and I've said that I was wrong about 10 times now. At the time, Flores was our only other catcher and they were saying he'd be sent to the minors for the season. Lo Duca was always a good contact hitter and that's why I liked the signing. The amount of money we spent on him, at the time, meant nothing to me. Who would've thought that the rest of the offense would do so poorly? I still think the fact that he is a contact hitter will turn into some nice hit streaks for him (like the one he currently has going), but now that we know Flores is a beast, it's an acquisition we really didn't need to make. I still think the Estrada signing was worse, though.

Also, NO ONE expected Nieves to do as well as he has.

It's the old all righty lineup thing against the lefty than Manny loves to do. Still, I think that Lo Duca is a liability in LF. I don't see him lasting the game out there. The plan should be to rack up a lead. As soon as Zito exits for a RHP, LoDuca should sit or move to 1B.

Bergmann's start against SF from earlier this season: 3 IP 10 H 8 R 5 ER 1 HR 2 BB 0 K (Loss).

Zito's start against us from earlier this season: 5 IP 7 H 3 R 3 ER 1 HR 4 BB 2 K (Win).

crap, I stepped away to see the Dark Knight and all hell broke loose!   Great news on the Guzman signing and on trading Rauch for a 2B. Now we'll need to sign a starter, a couple of bullpen arms and maybe a power hitting 1B and we're fine.
