Um, this comment may get me in trouble, but what parent in their right mind names their kid Richard Harden? Really?

Maybe his parents wanted him to be a pictures star.

Harden has been claimed on waivers, FOXSports.com reports.

 The Cubs put him on waivers?

Everybody goes on waivers.  Doesn't mean they're letting him go.

Right.  They'll get two draft picks if they let him walk, so might as well see if they can do better.

Harden
Lannan
Strasburg
sounds pretty nice ... even better when JZ is back.

I would absolutely try to get Harden off of waivers or even in the offseason. He's a fantastic pitcher and his durability issues may drop his market price.

keep in mind that Harden is a F/A at the end of the season so I'm not sure if the Cubs would deal him or more importantly whether the Nationals would give up what the Cubs would want for him

True, but gaining him and having him for like 4 years would be awesome.

Harden
Strasburg
Lannan
Olsen (Zmnn in the future)
Livan/AAAguys/etc etc

Just solidifies our rotation a bit more.

I think if we put the claim in, the Cubs pull him back. I can't imagine that they'll just let his contract go, and I don't think we'll have what it takes to trade for him.

Hold it for a second.  I read the post.  I'm not sure if "Eric" was asking Brian about whether a claim was made or he had heard a claim had been made and was asking for verification.

A contendered is reported to have made a claim, possibly Minnesota, but no sources cited in this:

IMO it doesn't really matter.  We aren't gonna get him.

It makes zero sense for the Nats to have claimed him, unless we'd rather have the draft picks for whatever we are able to dump on the Cubs in exchange.  He's got no value for this season to us in terms of playoff odds improvement, and we'd have no rights for beyond.

A "contendered" is a team that used to be good, but has slipped out of a playoff spot far enough that they do not seem likely to make it.  In other words, Minnesota.

A past good team, so to speak.

Hopefully they don't throw too many past balls.

espnchicago.com says the twins were awarded the waiver claim on harden.

we're stuck with what we got.  we better make some f'n runs this offseason.
