I really hope we can move Moore to a team without a first baseman this offseason because I would really like him to get his chance in the Bigs and its obvious it will never come with Washington.

If we don't re-sign LaRoche to make room for Ryan Injuredman, we're going to need a solid bench 1B.  There is always Frandsen, but he is relied on for backup LF, 2B, and 3B, so I mean, it might be Moore's time to take something of an Espinosa-style role.

I think Moore has prove that he cannot hit off the bench at this point. Personally I would like to see us get a vetern left handed bat for our back up 1Bman next season.

At this point I'm thinking extend LaRoche, extend Span, sign Cabrera and have an extra guy.

One person will be hurt at any given time. If they aren't, Zimm can start in LF, 1B, and 3B and all 7 starters not counting the catcher can have one day in 8 off until someone gets hurt.

That way we have one guaranteed pro pinch hit per game.

Agree.  Laroche has come alive again but has been inconsistent this year and don't see how they can re-sign him.  Seems to me Zimm is destined for first.  Of course that leaves second--Cabrera said he prefers SS which to me translated means he will want more $ to play 2B.

Agreed...

If this team were to win the WS in 2014...or 2015...I can see the Lerners doing a Marlinsesque salary dump...

One of LaRoach or Span is sure to be gone in 2015...

Good thing is that Hiarston and other dead weight will be gone as well...though we are stuck with McLousy for another year...

Yes++.

No matter what, somebody gets hurt every season. It would be great to have solid major leaguers ready, rather than veterans holding on for that last season in the bigs.

Oh, and remember 2011 when that Nats OF included Laynce Nix, Rick Ankiel, and Jonny Gomes?

In that case we let Cabrera go and let Danny play and hope he figures it out hitting right. Either way there is no reason to expect Harper, Werth, Zimmerman, and LaRoche to all be healthy at the same time so keep everyone else.

Keep LaRoche, Span, and Cabrera. Espinosa hits like a career utility infielder: handy to have a good fielder, but not a starter and a bad choice to pinch-hit left-handed.

He usually hits pretty well with consistent playing time.

Yup. He isn't a good pinch hitter and obviously has no value as a pinch runner or defensive sub, but if Zimmerman or a corner outfield hits the DL then Moore is a good bet to turn in a serviceable performance to bridge the gap. With playing time, he has pretty solid power.

There is also rest days.

I remember him making a great diving reaction catch last year! I thought he was pretty good on 1st at least.

3rd best reliever right now?

It says a lot that this thread went six months without a post.

Should be a pitcher perhaps?

Honestly, he's been a disappointment this season.    He needs to go to a 2nd division team and hope to get an everyday 1st base job.
