I would do that in a heartbeat, I don't know why the Pirates would though.

Lol, I guess you like 85 wins?

If they get Chapman, O' Day, and a mid-tier starter, Parra will be good enough if health is even a little on our side. It's not as aggressive as I'd like, but it's not the end of the world either.

Giolito and Robinson for Freeman, first base and another LH hitter and we're golden.

They're not getting Chapman and Oday.

O'Day isn't going to close. A true "overhual," like some are saying, would get rid of more than Storen & Paps. Rivero & Stammen should be the only locks

The Reds need to stop living in a fantasy world. No team is willing to pay that many top prospects for a one year rental closer. It's usually the fans that overvalue their players, not the FO. Many people here thought Escobar was a bad return for Clippard. Seems to me that fans on the Reds forums would be happy with a high ceiling OF prospect and a high level arm, potentially one they could trade at the deadline. Robles, Storen, and Difo should get it done.

We're stuck with Werth and Zimmerman...we should really try to upgrade at catcher...shouldn't be that hard...

I have cheered for the Redskins since Eddie LeBaron was QB...about the same season that Mickey Vernon won the AL batting title. And daughter and I watched the first half of the Carolina game.

So:

- the Nats are likely to win the NL East sooner than the Redskins will win the NFC East

Well, the NFL East is so bad this year I could see the Snydermen winning 3 or 4 games and sneaking through at .500.

Robles??  H3lls no.  He's, by far, the best position prospect in the entire system

They need to get Werth, Zimmerman and Gonzalez to defer their 2016 salaries to align with their contributions to the team.  That would free up another $47MM+...

The 2016 winter meetings are at National Harbor, so that frees up some travel costs. I bet the Lerners won't even reimburse meal money.

According to Cots and some discussion we've had here, the overall AAV is what factors into the luxury tax (which would be where the Lerners draw the absolute line; probably much lower), so that wouldn't really matter much. Unlike other sports, extensions don't change the AAV impact for the year, only the years and total $$$.

Unless you're arguing that the Lerners are truly broke and can't afford the team anymore, I'm not sure what the point would be.

Ha, the pleasures of a guaranteed contract, huh?

Not a Gio homer, but he is actually been worth more than his contract (if you buy into $/WAR). 3.7 WAR last season X $7M = $25.9M. His contract is at $12M/yr, with some options coming up. Not bad.
