At this point I would say that the Hershey Bears will surely be the only hockey we'll see at VC this season.

All Star game is canceled.  Because of Olympics won't be back until 2015.

Bettman sux...

broke the union, got everything he wanted, now a contract 7 years old isn't good enough for him.

I wonder what this has done to Winnipeg...one season of top-flight hockey after 17 years and then a lockout; there are probably entire streets of people sitting in their garages with the car engine running.

Might as well close this thread, because there sure as hell isn't going to be hockey anytime soon.

Hmm, it's on Comcast locally from Verizon (DC).

Look like Steelers' throw back jerseys.   :)     Anybody go to the Bears' game last night?   I watched it on TV.   I miss hockey.

I went but didn't see that guy.  It was really strange.  1St of all, although it was in the big club's arena, it was an AWAY GAME for the Bears!  Although sold out, not everyone attended.  Not sure if it was a protest thing or not.  No horn guy.  No Goat screaming let's go bears.  All were united screaming Fire Bettman though!  Verizon store sold some Bears T shirts and sweatshirts.  Nothing like a CAPS game

The NHL is screwing itself something fierce. They don't have the connection with the American people like MLB and the NFL does and any work stoppage will hurt them more than any other league. You'd think they'd have learned after their last stoppage.

This. Until they get another arbitrater/lawyer - the owners and players will never come to terms. Time to shake up some of the personnel involved in the negotiations. As for this season, it would take a miracle to get a compromise and still play a short Hockey season at this point. Might as well, put the Caps t-shirts in storage -and bring out the RGIII or Strasburg t-shirts...........

On the one hand, it was great to see live hockey again...but on the other, it just pissed me off even more about the lockout.  This time of year just isn't the same without 3 games a week.

I had never sat in the 200 ("club") level before, and that was a bit of a revelation.  I think the lower 200s might actually be the best seats in the house in that they elevate you enough to be able to watch plays developing and see the entire surface, but at the same time keep you close to the action.  My regular seats (second row in the 400s) give you a great view of the overall game, but you are pretty far away from the ice.  The 100s get you right next to the action, but you lose some of the overall perspective (plus you've got glass and netting and all that other crap to deal with).  Club seats are also a pretty good value...or would be, if there was some damned hockey to watch  :(

As much I hate Bettman this latest blowup is a direct result of Donald Fehr.  There is a deal on the table that most players would absolutely accept to get back to hockey and Fehr is whispering in their ears, "their compromise is a sign of weakness, lets hold out for more MORE"

The rational owners (i.e. Pittsburgh) convinced the rest of the owners to made a serious compromise that they knew the players would accept to finish this and Fehr convinces them to try and nickel and dime the owners.

Fehr is playing reckless poker with his company credit card.  There is a economic principle based on human emotion that says a player (in the economic sense) will choose to have nothing for himself to SPITE the other side if the other player's offer is insulting or low.

Fehr could have said, "lets take this deal" and it would be done instead he infuriated the owners over a minuscule difference.  He is a jackass.

If the players take a deal now,  how long until the owners shut things down again to renegotiate?

USA hockey wins the gold medal over Sweden in the WJC's.

Caps 6th round pick Riley Barber (Miami) had 3 goals, 3 assists (6 pts) and was a +1 in 7 games. Led the team in SOG with 24. He's also having an awesome season so far for Miami.

Caps 1st round pick Filip Forsberg was the captain of team Sweden and finished with 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists) in 6 games and was a +1. Sweden won the silver.

Caps 7th round pick Christian Djoos also played on Sweden and had 3 assists and was -2 in 6 games for Sweden.

When I was in Boston last weekend, I heard the folks on TV refer to Gaudreau as "Johnny Hockey."

Wiki:
Quote
As a freshman, Gaudreau went on to score 21 goals and 23 assists in 44 games, leading all freshmen in scoring. Gaudreau played an integral part in Boston College's win in the Frozen Four tournament, scoring a goal in a 4–1 win in the final over Ferris State.[4] Gaudreau was awarded the Bill Flynn Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the Hockey East Championship Tournament. Gaudreau also helped Boston College win the traditional Beanpot Tournament and was named "Beanpot MVP" after the tournament.
Calgary draftee.

Looks like there may be hockey after all!  Reports are that there is a tentative deal in place that would permit a 48-game season...stay tuned...
