One thing that was pretty obvious at Potomac last night is how much our farm system has improved.  It seemed like the last few years we had 1 or 2 guys with ML potential on the club, now at the high A level we have Souza, Kobernus, Hood, Perez, Smoker, Holder, and Leon who all seem to have a shot to get to the show.

None of those guys except Hood and Perez have any potential. They are no different than back in the day when we were excited for guys like Casto, Diaz, etc.

I haven't but I have read the scouting reports. Souza will never amount to anything. At best he is a DH who can't hit. Leon is a catcher who can't hit. Smoker hasn't been a prospect in years. Holder is too old to be a prospect. Kobernus could have potential, but he hasn't shown anything yet.

When Josh Willingham was Holder's age, he began the year in A+ ball. He had less than 100 AB in AA that season. I think SF has hacked your account.

Holder is a pitcher. Not a good comparison. At that age, Willingham advanced to AA where he had a 1.016 OPS. He made the big leagues at 25. Holder is 24 right now. I don't see him making the big leagues by next year.

.71 WHIP? He's clearly overmathced, and will never amount to anything.

But chill, we have Chad Gaudin.

Willingham didn't get 30 PA in a single MLB season until he was 27. You don't like the comparison because it shows that 24 isn't too old.

Holder sucks. He was only drafted, and aout 7 rounds too early because the Nats didn't want to pay the going rate for a third round pick.

Milone :az:

Holder may very well suck, but it isn't because he's 24.

I didn't say it was. He was, according to all scouts, picked a good 7-8 rounds ahead of where he was supposed to go, and he did in fact sign for under slot.

Two signs the Nats picked him specifically because they were worried about cost after Strasburg and not because he was a third round talent.

He didn't get a chance even though he deserved one. He dominated in the minors at all levels. Holder has never dominated a level higher than low A.

Willingham had nice minor league numbers at ages 21,22 & 23 but to say he dominated is hyperbole.

Yeah I don't know why GMU is clubbing those guys. Potomac has some talented players. Maybe Souza can stick at 1B.

How about Tom Milone today though. Wow, people continue to knock his stuff but he keeps producing despite the higher competition.

All this talk, and it glances over Smoker's emergence as a reliever.

Closed out 2010 on a great note, and while it's just one game, has continued success as a reliever. As a lefty with the power stuff he's showing, he could move quickly. As in MLB next year quick. Burnett's our late inning lefty but Slaten's replacable. If Smoker deals like he did to close last year, he's going to reach AAA this season.

Im not making any bold predictions about him being in the bigs next season, just saying now that he's a full time reliever, he could move fast. My guess would be a call up at some point next season if things go well, but he's got as bright a future as anyone at Potomac IMO.
