did you guys hear about the concert at Nats Park? apparently Elton John's piano broke and he stormed off the stage momentarily.

I love his attitude and his demeanor. Great composure. Solid but not spectacular stuff. He has a future on this team in some capacity.

oh without a doubt ... he was our best starter in AAA and while he's facing better hitters up here, he's been doing a good job of adjusting.

in this long and rough season, it's been a positive to see the young starting pitchers have nights like this.

Clearly, the Lerners bought the cheapest piano available because the Natinals suck. Lerners Are Cheap  8)

Awesome. congratulations Craig. it is so awesome having all these complete games by these rookies this year.
seriously, can you guys ever remember our starting pitchers going this deep into ball games consistently?
That was our 4th CG of the season which ranks tied for 8th in all of baseball.

I think this is the first season where Manny Acta is actually trying to improve as a manager.  With the handwriting on the wall that he should expect to be fired, he's finally made moves in the batting order, and has learned to leave the starting pitcher in as long as possible.

 Acta just called Dunn's blunder missing the bag inexcusable and said that there is no reason to miss the bags because they haven't moved in over 100 years.

Yes he had a good game besides that but hell even Acta called him out on it. just a bad, bad play.

What a game!
I hope they can finish on top, so they have a nice long period of remembering what winning is like, and why it's so good.

yeah we deserve to go into the all-star break with at least some good feeling.  tonight was very nice, but i'd love to split the series and head into the break with back-to-back wins.

this is my 10,000th post ladies and gentlemen.  i'd like to thank god, my family, the chief, hammonds for the first walkoff hit in nats history and of course all of you.  none of this wouldn't have happened if it weren't for you all.  i told myself i wasn't going to cry, but ...

This.

Dunn should theoretically improve with steady work at 1B but in reality that dude is just a mess with a glove in his hand.

Agreed. He's shown he can make routine plays, is a big target, and does some nice picking of throws (which is one of Nick's weakness. Amazing he can field so well, but has a hard time picking throws.) Dunn is still really a stop gap. But we had a year with Young at 1B and used defensive replacements. I could deal with Dunn at 1B for an interim period. Although, I still think he should be dealt to the Yankees.

you think NJ is bad at making picks at 1B? I thought he was solid there. It seems like he makes the clean pick more often than not despite a massive amount of bad throws by the infielders.

If we go into next season expecting Adam Dunn to be the everyday first basemen, we'll be regretting it by the beginning of May.

I'd rather resign Nick Johnson because, if the offseason transactions are handled properly, we'll be in the market for a first baseman.  There is no one in the system, including Adam Dunn, ready to play first base in 2010.  If we trade Nick Johnson, that's makes him unlikely to be the one we sign for next season because players typically don't come back after they've been traded.

I'd like this team to think "big picture" but, I'm afraid, they won't.

I'd like to see Adam work extensively in the off-season practicing playing first base, so he doesn't embarrass himself at least.

from NJ comments, just had to post it.

Quote

Drunk walks into a bar and the bartender exclaims: "Did ya hear about the Nats tonight? They scored 13 runs and had 21 hits."
Drunk replies: "Did they win?"
