Nationals @ Pirates, Game 1
« Topic Start: June 29, 2007, 06:07:35 PM »

June 29, 2007 - PNC Park, 7:05

Ian Snell
6-5, 2.92 ERA

Matt Chico
3-5, 5.08 ERA

Rajai Davis (CF)
Jose Bautista (3B)
Freddy Sanchez (2B)
Xavier Nady (RF)
Jason Bay (LF)
Adam LaRoche (1B)
Ronny Paulino (C)
Jack Wilson (SS)
Ian Snell (P)

Ryan Langerhans (CF)
Ronnie Belliard (2B)
Ryan Zimmerman (3B)
Dmitri Young (1B)
Austin Kearns (RF)
Ryan Church (LF)
Felipe Lopez (SS)
Brian Schneider (C)
Matt Chico (P)
________________________________________________

Chico on Saturday tossed six-plus innings and gave up one run on four hits against the Indians. He struck out three and walked three. Chico was able to throw strike one consistently and mixed his pitches, which is a key for him to have success.

Snell had by far his worst outing of the season in his last start, giving up five runs in six innings to the Angels. To Snell's credit, however, some defensive help behind him could have lessened the damage done in a five-run second inning. He also bounced back to finish with four strong scoreless innings to close out his start. Snell faced Washington earlier this month and had an extremely impressive two run, three hit seven inning performance.

I smell a sweep, by us. Last week started the same way, with a sorry series and then we rebounded vs the Indians. We gotta get going, we're 14 games under i don't wanna slide any further.

I'm really getting sick of Langerhans in the lead-off slot. I don't care what he was batting before he came here, his .173 average plainly sucks. I can't believe Manny and us the fans - me have writ Nook off. I still think he deserves another shot to start.

I really think Watson should have stayed up, and we should have permanently demoted Fick.  He's useless on this team right now.  I say put him in the minors, see if he's got his swing back, then call him up if need be.

How about instead, we all think positive, that Langerhans will not only have a great game, but also use tonight's game to become the solid leadoff hitter the Nats need.

Since he pitched on Monday, his being moved up to tomorrow, so he continues to pitch on his 5th day makes sense, but it would mean that Simontacchi gets pushed back a day.

Simontacchi will pitch Monday at home against the Cubs. They're being careful about having Bacsik and Bowie pitching back to back. But I like Bergmann going tomorrow on regular rest.

I wonder why they waited so long to start alternating between left-hander and right-hander. At least it's finally getting done. With 3 lefties, the Nats need a 6 man rotation to balance things out...

crazy to think that i'm antipating a guzman return after his first two seasons here, and its even more crazy that i'm anticipating his return more than Patterson's.

Zim out on 3 pitches.. It took Manny 3+ months to move Felipe out of the top of the order.  How long will it take him to move Zim?  ugh, Young pathetic

That would be stupid in my opinion. It was an easy play plus I think it was foul anyway, and it's not like we have a heavy bench
