We're 10-3, if we simply play .500 ball the rest of the year we finish at 85-77 or 84-78.

Historic echo: the 1925 Nats started 10 - 3. Got their 10th win on about May 1, because the season started later. That team won the AL pennant.

I'm 30.  I've been a lifelong Nats/Expos fan.  This is the best start they've had in my lifetime.

Are we to the point where we need Old Chelsea to include the 81 Expos on the relative wins tracker?

Nats/Expos have won 90 or more games, or would have had they played 162, 6 times: 79, 80, 81, 87, 93, 94.  those are the teams I'm more interested in tracking with than I am the historic Nats teams.  JMHO.

^ No.

If we're shooting for the playoffs with 90 wins as the goal, that's who we should be comparing ourselves too.  Not previous DC incarnations.  The Expos are part of our history.

If we're shooting for the playoffs we don't need to stinking comparisons. Comparisons have nothing to do with the standings. No offense to the expos and their fans but I have nothing to do with them. I understand that the expos moved here but I wasn't a fan of the expos.

 I don't expect the twins or rangers to carry the mantel for DC baseball and we shouldn't be expected to carry it for montreal. Besides with the way the team was stripped by MLB ownership, for all intents we got an expansion franchise

That's fine, but the Nats also don't have 30 years or more of history to draw from.  Hopefully 10-15 years from now we'll be holding up this season or upcoming seasons as the standard, but all we have is one .500 season and a whole bunch of pathetically dreadful ones.  It's not absurd to compare ourselves vs. the Expos golden era until we get there.  It's not Montreal's fault MLB and Bud Selig gave us a shell of a franchise.

Why not compare ourselves with the Os golden era- a market that has some overlap is a lot more relevant than what happened in Montreal?

You just need some patience. Wait for them to become fashionable, wait three more years for D.C. to catch on. ;)

I fair to see how Montreal is relevant- our number 1 tourist attraction is women dancing on poles and 18 being the legal drinking age

Seriously, Baltimore is a much smaller market and their "golden era" was in the '70s. Lots of things have changed since the.

Compare to the '25 Nats. Both started 12 - 4. A good team to compare with this Nats team.

Orioles?

They are from Baltimore, a different town that wasn't in the majors until 1954 or so, and then only because the beer-baron family that had bought the St Louis Browns threatened to pull advertising from the Nats unless Clark Griffith agreed to let the Browns move. I hate the Orioles as much as I hated the 1950s Yankees.

They Baltimore Orioles are the rivals:

(1) the imperious Colts of Unitas, Moore, Parker, Lipscomb, Marchetti, winning championships while GP Marshall mismanaged the Redskins. [Arguments with other kids when I was in 6th grade as they became Colts fans. Turn-coats.]

(2) The bush-league Baltimore fans waving "crying towels" when a Nats pitcher had to be taken out.

(3) Paul Richards getting the umpires -- always favored Baltimore -- to nearly undress Pet Ramos because Richards claimed that Pedro was loading the baseball.

(4) The 1969 Nats, a good team, being ignored because they played in the same division as the "unbeatable" Baltimore Orioles. Universal flattery for Brooks Robinson, who was almost as good as Ken McMullen, our Kenny Mac who fielded and hit a lot like the great Ryan Zimmerman. Making allowances for the "modern dead ball era" in which McMullen played. It was amusing to see Baltimore get mowed down by Jerry Koosman, Tom Seaver, Tommy Agee, and the rest of the Mets. Even more fun a couple years later when the Orioles, by their own "admission", had the all-time greatest team, with four 20-game winning starters...except that the Pirates beat them in the WS. (Cuellar, Dobson, Palmer, McNally all won 20 games. Ha!)

(5) Burning memory: one classic DC day 1998, "fry an egg on a sidewalk day", as I walked across the HQ parking lot in Rockville with a couple of young programmers from Engineering. They didn't know that Washington had ever had a baseball team.

Right now, I wish the Nats had a CF like Sam Rice, but I'll keep comparing the records. Note that the '25 team crushed a Yankee team with Ruth and Gehrig, and finished 8.5 games ahead of a good Connie Mack A's team.

See
