I never actually
disliked Lannan myself, but the image I'll never get out of my head is that perpetual wistful-puppy, trying-to-smile-through-tears, why's-everybody-always-picking-on-me look on his face, that Eeyore-like persona he seemed to cultivate (hence my use of that name for him at times here). He just
looked like he knew something terrible was going to happen. The theoretical talent was (and may still be) there, but he always struck me as having really serious mental-toughness issues.
