Shawn Hill was scheduled to pitch against the Mets on Wednesday night at Shea Stadium,
but left-hander Mike Bacsik will get the start instead. The last time Bacsik started against
the Mets was July 27. Bacsik was solid and helped the Nationals defeat the Mets, 6-2, at
Shea Stadium. Bacsik lasted seven innings and gave up two runs on eight hits. Bacsik was
efficient, throwing just 83 pitches while 55 of them went for strikes.

Willie Randolph tabbed Philip Humber for his first career start on Monday. In four big
league appearances, Humber has allowed one run on three hits in five innings. The
right-hander was 11-9 with a 4.27 ERA for Triple-A New Orleans, but allowed just
three hits and one earned run over his last 13 1/3 innings.

Top prospect in the Mets system . . . Kinda sad - but he's still got promise - College World Series winner and all.

We should get after him early.  You should NEVER lose to a pitcher who's starting his first game!

Humber's totals at AAA this year:

139 IP, 4.27 ERA, 120 K, 44 BB, 11-9 record

He's decent, but he probably won't set the world on fire.  He's what the Mets offered us for the Chief.

Wow, the stadium is pretty empty for their team's current situation.

It definitely happens, though. Keep in mind, we are the Nats. If anyone is going to lose to a starter in his first game....

Plus, we have Bacsik out there. Quite possibly the worst starter to take the mound this season. Seriously.

Oh, that does nothing for me. He's still Fick. We need to see the guys that will actually be in the majors next season.

I've never played any of the Halos, but I've heard that they're great. I gotta try one sometime.

Nationals. Awesome, let's go.
Wait...what?

So, you're saying we don't have an opponent tonight?
We must only avoid beating ourselves?

This is Nice Game Thread Night, to attract Newbies.
You can't post anything negative about the Nationals or use bad words.
That wouldn't be... nice.

Colume looks tired... they should rest him tonight, so he'll play well next year.
