Why for either.

Meyer shouldn't be moved for anyone less than Greinke.

Oh, he could be used to get Span. Or Garza.

I have $500. I could get a pizza. Or I could go to the Inn at Little Washington.

WTF does any of this mean? If he's used to get only Span, I will murder somebody.

Because Revere is Eury Perez. All speed and slap hitting. Span is a much better player.

I'd jump on Meyer for Span in a heartbeat.  Span is just the guy we need to bridge the gap between now and Goodwin. Span's a free agent in 2015, right as he's going to start losing his speed. Good trade.

getting span (.270 .334 .375) mean benching Morse (.289 .310 .430) or LaRoche (.255 .340 .496) when werth gets back- I'd pass

Or trading one of them

either way, you're replacing power with a slight bump in obp in morse's case, or a down grade in laroche's- maybe the defense makes it worth it

i think if we're interested in span, we'd want put together a package for a span & liriano bundle.

liriano > detwiler.

I don't get the love affair with Span. We have a jam packed outfield has it stands, and he's not AMAZING.

If we give up Meyer for Span that is a HUGE mistake the organization would be making. Meyer should only be used in a deal that nets someone like a Greinke.

leadoff hitter, very good speed, good defense, clubhouse leader ...

but harper is playing pretty damn well in CF, can't complain with how he's playing out there, especially recently.

I agree.  Besides, we can either stick with Harper until Goodwin develops, or go after Bourn in the off-season.  (Re: Greinke, I might rather have "someone like a Greinke" than Greinke himself.  He wouldn't exactly help our clubhouse chemistry.)

Hulet's review of FG's preseason top 100, in four parts.

97. Alex Meyer, RHP, Washington: Meyer has dominated low-A ball (despite average-at-best control) but that is to be expected from a 22-year-old top college draftee (from the 2011 draft). He needs to be challenged with a promotion to high- or double-A ball. (Value Up)

I'm sure it will happen a little later in the season. Basically, he needs to get promoted to where he cant beat people with just velocity. That way he can start working on command.

98 is nice, but 95 on the black is better

0 BB 9 K

If this organization has coaches who are really skilled at ironing out control issues in pitchers, that is GREAT news. It might explain why they're okay with drafting guys like Meyer and Mooneyham.

I'm practically a Span fanboi but there's no way in hell I'm trading Meyer for him. There isn't even any room in the outfield

I'm ALL for going after him in the offseason if the price is right, but unless there's an injury to an OF or LaRoche in the next 2 weeks, no effing way.

Meyer can be such a more valuable trade chip in the future than that.

Aaron Barrett was worthy of the callup too. 2.67 ERA, 16 saves, 50 Ks in 33.2 IP.

Hopefully Karns to AA is the next move and Goodwin to Potomac.
