@ESPNStatsInfo: From Elias: Nationals are 1st team to hit 12+ HR over a 2-game span since 2007 Yankees, who hit 13 on July 31-Aug. 1.

yea it was

Another reason to love Gio. I wanted his jersey but it would have gotten here right before the season ended, too long for my needs. However I complained about the super slow projected shipping times (and the inability to choose a better shipping option on custom jerseys) on whatever satisfaction survey the MLB store gave me and they wound up refunding my 2 day shipping on the Harper jersey I got instead (only ones in stock were Harper and Werth).

Sveum on Nats: Of all the teams we've played, this is by far the best team. That's like an American League lineup, too.

I love hearing stuff like this from other team's officials

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: On Monday 5th September 2005, the Nationals win their third straight with a 5-2 home win over the Marlins, with Livan carrying a clean sheet into the ninth...record now 72-66...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250905120

---

Ths 84th win by this year's Nats pulls them even with the 1943 edition - here's where they stand, in terms of gross wins (I know it was a shorter season back then), with other winning Nats clubs:

99 - 1933 [pennant winner]
96 - 1925 [pennant winner]
94 - 1930
93 - 1932
92 - 1924 [World Series winner], 1931
91 - 1912
90 - 1913
87 - 1945
86 - 1969
85 - 1915, 1927
84 - 1943, 2012

---

Announced attendance was 21,244 but it looked a lot less than that - lot of STH probably staying home to watch Giants-Cowboys (we still have a way to go to really become a baseball town - King NFL shouldn't win out that easily amid some of the most exciting times our sports scene has had in many years). Season average is now 29,462, still 457/fixture over the 2008 Nats Park record but if we have too many more nights like Tuesday we may not break the record after all.

Anyone have a gif of the guys in the dugout doing the shark bite move after Bernadina's homer? I could watch that all day.

This being DC, I wouldn't be surprised if the DNC has had an impact on attendance as well.

Could be.

It'll be interesting to see if the messenger bag promo does anything tonight...when it's really going to get thin will be Sunday, when the Nats (with the always-poor-drawing Marlins the visitors) go directly up against the Redskins season opener. King NFL is back in the house, mates.

Exactly!   The SB Champs.     The Packers and Giants both ran the table in the playoffs.    So, they didn't have the best regular season record.  Big deal.  How anyone considers that "backing in" is just a R-----s sourgrapes fanboy.

So, the Cardinals "backed into" the WS last year?

Ask any, any, any professional athlete - would you rather win the most games or win the championship.
100% will say win the championship.
No one remembers who had the best record in 1969.

Just look at the NFL's motto:  Any.  Given.  Sunday.

The NFL regular season means nothing as long as you scrape up enough wins to get to the playoffs and you get your one shot.  The best team in footbal rarely wins the Super Bowl.

You're talking about Champions.  I'm talking about the best team.  In football, they're frequently dissimilar.

Not sure this is relevant here but I looked at the Stubhub sites for the NL contenders - Nats, Atl, LA, SF, Cincy, St Louis, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, even Philly. All except SF show comparable prices and availability for upcoming games as the Nats - that is, lots of tickets available and some at very cheap prices. Only the Giants show a much higher price range generally available for upcoming games.

Yeah, I know some part of me is rooting for the nats to have a small fanbase so I can afford tickets. But a full house more nights would be awesome!
