Eh Kerry Wood was totally wild, wasn't he? I give neither of those bums anything.

I understand that Wood was all around the plate but LaRoche fouled off a few pitches and got the job done.  In the end he did something that helped the tying run score.

LaRoche fought off a bunch of pitches. Werth went 0-2 and battled back for the BB.

True - I guess I was just so sure that he would fail that I wasnt giving him any credit.

Perfectly understandable.

15 men left on base this game.  I guess that's an improvement from last year when nobody could even get on base.

Seems like a pretty last-season performance all-in-all.  Except for the bench contributing, that was refreshing.

Honestly, the Nats had the game from the get go. I'm beating a dead horse (and a bit of "if the queen had balls she'd be the king), but without the wind the Nats win this one at least 6-3.

Just watched the game.

- Both starters were fantastic.
- Desmond was pretty money at the plate.
- I've never seen a righty pull the ball as hard as Zimemrman did in the 6th and not end up with a home run.
- It's nice to have so many guys who can play multiple positions.
- Lidge's slider is nasty.

3 hits, an RBI, a run scored, did I miss anything?

Cable company doesn't provide all the broadcasts in HD like DirecTV did.  Gawd, just another reason why DirecTV is the best.  ugh.  They only have two HD games at a time.  This is gonna such most of the time.

And that would have been consistent with Ryan Dempster's decline as a pitcher in 2011.
His ERA and WHIP rose sharply last year, to 4.80 and 1.45, even though he still threw 191 K's.

When Cubs new manager Sveum went to the mound to pull Dempster, Dempster said, "'Yeah, it's not a bad move. I think if it's a calm day, [Ryan] Zimmerman would have had 900 feet of home runs."
:lmao:
He told reporters: "I just tried to attack the zone," Dempster said. "You pitch to the elements. Ryan Zimmerman hit two home runs off me today and Mother Nature brought them back in the ballpark. That's part of pitching here. You can have that advantage some days, and really have it as a pitcher. I just tried to keep pumping in the strike zone and stay aggressive as possible and put pressure on them to swing the bats."

Actor Bill Murray autographed the ball he used for the ceremonial first pitch on Thursday and flipped it to Ryan Dempster for the game. Apparently, Dempster didn’t know it had been signed, “Good luck, Ryan.” As it turns out, the Nationals’ Ian Desmond singled off the first pitch from Dempster and wanted the ball as a souvenir from Opening Day. It wasn’t until he got back to the dugout and saw the ball and the autograph that he realized what he had.

Watched the game when I got home last night. Great start by Strasburg. He had to battle a bit at times, but overall, was very effective and economical. He really looks like he'll be the ace we've hoped he'd be. Desi looked pretty good other than that errant throw. Zimmy crushed those two balls!

DirectTv = winning! Got home at 11pm, spent some time with the wife ;) and then watched the Nats game in HD via DVR... The good life

I like Lidge's nasty slider.......it is really nasty......I like nasty pitches and the batter's reaction to them - that look of "what the H*ll was that"?

It's gonna be a great season watching Strasburg, Clipper, Storen, and Lidge...... :mg:

Still doesn't justify hitting cleanup.
