Former Red Sox manager Terry Francona told CSNNE.com's Sean McAdam he does not expect to manage in the 2012 season.

Francona interviewed for the Cardinals' manager job, but Mike Matheny was hired last week.

"When I interviewed in St. Louis, I was genuinely excited about it. St. Louis was such an exciting opportunity. But we were all beaten up at the end of the year, and after (interviewing) I took a step back and began to look at things realistically," Francona told McAdam.

Francona also said he has spoken to Cubs president Theo Epstein, the former GM of the Red Sox, but is not a candidate to be the Cubs' manager.

"I need to take a step back and re-energize. That's probably in my best interest right now. In fairness to myself, it's the best thing to do," Francona said

He needs to get well, concentrate on his personal life, and kick back.  I'm glad he's not managing.
