I've been listening to him for years, as bass guitar player for Tower of Power, the band backing Little Feat on it's incomparable live recording "Waiting for Columbus".

Someone needs to check out KFC and Popeyes, it looks like large amounts of their chicken may elevate your testosterone levels above MLB's testing limits.

That means Lackey, Beckett, Lester, and Buchholz should have tested positive a year ago.  They must have evaded detection because there's no evidence of performance enhancement.

In fact I attended a couple of Giants matches at old Candlestick Park in 1992, and the Tower of Power horn section did the national anthem at one of them.

Sorry about Melky, but he was never more than a good fielding .255 hitter. A useful 4th OF on a good team, but not a future Frank Robinson.

the roids didn't make him make more contact.

you know that how? before he got to the royals, he never hit .300, then he hits .305 and .346. Before last year, his best year was 1.7 WAR, three years ago he had -1 WAR, then he goes 4.2, and 4.5. The simplest explanation seems to be the steroids were the reason for the improvement

We also would have accepted: he's NOT making more contact.

2011: 88.2% contact
2012: 88.0% contact
Career: 88.3% contact

His line drive% is arguably up a tiny bit, but that's about it. He had a couple of excellent BABIP years, and with regression probably should be expected to produce something like .280/.330/.440 I would guess.

he was a .275 hitter before the last couple of years that would still be a nice addition to the team.  the improvement in the last couple of years is due to a babip spike.  his line drive percentage is also up very slightly (0.6% over his career avg in 2011 and 2.1% over his career avg this year).  All that means is he is squaring the ball up more, which has nothing to do with roids. It's when those balls that he sqaures upstart going farther and farther that you can point to PEDs as the reason.

Squaring the ball up more does not lead to becoming an Ichiro-type who can sustain a .350 BABIP.

Also, can you explain how a 2.5 WAR CF like a .275-hitting Melky is a nice addition to the team? Because he'd essentially be replacing a 2.5 WAR 1B in LaRoche, so I don't see how it helps. Plus, you're putting Morse at 1B, where unlike LF his bad defense actually affects those around him as well.

Which should be fine, since we have a left side of the infield whose defensive prowess is predicated on throw accuracy...

the babip spike may be because the ball he hits he hits harder, either way, he was putrid in atlanta, and now he's great and has been busted- I'm crediting the improvement with the roids

replacing laroche with melky would be beneficial because we have a lack of good table setters.  having melky lead off or even batting second would solve that problem provided that bryce continues to mature and become a middle of the order bat to replace laroche.

if you look at his career then that was clearly just a down year.

A down year because he wasn't using PED's.

becuase every year he hit's above .270 he was using PEDs?  what are you suggesting?  out of his 4 full seasons on the yankees he hit .273 or higher in three of them.

An empty .270 avg with horrible defense is nothing special, anyway.

his OBP is consistantly .330+ minus his crap year.  that is respectable.  also, what are you using to judge his defense?  If it's some sort of crap fielding metric than you can't use it in yuor argument.

is war a terrible judge of skill, because minus the roids he's probably a ~1.5 war player- nothing special
