Let that sink in a minute.

He should be a shoe-in for the All Star Game but Jean Segura who is batting .336 with similar power numbers and 22/24 SBs will be the starting shortstop for the NL.

And he was big in beating the Barves tonight.  A homer and a very nice defensive play to steal a hit from Andrelton Simmons in the 8th.

I love Desi as much as the next guy but Segura has been an absolute beast.  He deserves the nod.

I say a young'n like Segura needs to wait his turn, respect his elders, and just be happy to be there.

Bryce was not playing like an all star when he made it last year.  With his injury, he probably does not deserve it this year.  the major reason he was on last year and will be voted on this year is because he is charismatic and popular.

Segura is having a better year for his position this year than Bryce, but he is less known.  That said, Segura deserves to start and the traditionalist :old: ranters should be ignored.

I think Ian should make the team, but not start over Segura.

i frequently forget how low the offensive threshold is for shortstops to be really valuable. the fact that desmond slugs like he does is huge for this team

^^ This

In my opinion Ian Desmond is what he always has been offensively (although the power is new) a streaky hitter who can carry the team when hot or sink it when cold but I have been really impressed with his defense over the last year and a half.
