I'd like to see him perform at this level, maybe get a call to the AFL or Futures game and then we can talk about him getting a call-up.  Needs to improve at AA first.

But I still think he's going to be a good one.

Hood is not on the 40 man roster.  Does he need to be added this offseason to be protected from Rule 5?  If no, then I don't think he gets a sniff of the majors this year.

This is his fifth season in the Nats' minor league system and was signed at age 18 (if my math is correct - born 4/3/1990 and was drafted in June 2008) and the rule is:

Quote
Players are eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft who are not on their major league organization's 40-man roster and:
– were signed at age 19 or older and have been in the organization for four years; or
– were signed at age 18 or younger and have been in the organization for five years.

Does 2008 count against him?  it was <1/2 a season.

even if he's not protected, is he at the point where a team would carry him for a year?

he needs to hit his own (just like goodwin) at AA before we talk about coming up.  and who knows morse may move to 1st.

Wasn't it mentioned that Werth was going to play 1B too? Could they start working a rotation with Goodwin/Hood/Harper/Morse/Werth

been on a tear recently ...

.324 AVG, .834 OPS, 3 2B, 5 RBI in last 10 games ...

it's a shame he's had so many injuries this year never really got to get in a groove.  but good to see him close out the year strong.

his power will return next year.

Saw Hood last night. Went 2 for 3, last I looked. Most impressive player on the Harrisburg team. You notice how solid he is.

(a) When Hood hits a ball, it knows it's been hit. Very strong swing.

(b) Made a fine catch to take a line drive high off the RF wall. I could see the ball explode to right, then saw Hood leap and heard him hit the wall, as the padding fluttered around him. He caught it.

Hood probably would be a september call-up if not for the fact we're in a pennant race.

next year is a big one for him.  he had major wrist injuries (like espinosa) which really hurt his power stroke.  but still was able to drive in runs, play solid defense and since early june has been able to hit for higher average.

i still have lots of faith in him.  wish he was headed to AFL.

So, they’ve decided to develop Hood as a corner outfielder, where his power potential profiles well and his fielding ability could make him an eventual Gold Glove caliber defender.

i'm guessing he's trade bait as Goodwin take over for Bernie at some point as our 4th OF.

I'm thinking he's Werth's replacement.

Next 3 years
Harper
Span
Werth

Span leaves for free agency, Goodwin takes over center. A couple years after that Hood is ready for prime time and Werth gets moved to first or is benched/released

he's 22 now, so that would put him on a path to make the majors by 27.

yeah you're right ... he's 22 and hasn't shown any kind of flashes of possibly being a good prospect.

we should totally write him or any other prospect his age off right now.

I saw Hood, Goodwin, and Rendon at the end of the Harrisburg season. Hood was the most impressive.
