sounds interesting. Light or dark rum?
Shoot. I don't know. After a bit of Googling, there are a number of recipes: Epicurious suggests light rum, Michael Ruhlman uses "any good rum," and one of NYC's top cocktail bars naturally uses premium Ron Zacapa 23.

The biggest selling whiskeys are beam and jack, they both suck. I think a lot of scotch in particular is over priced because there is no pressure from cheaper alternatives

You haven't lived until you've had chicha down in the jungle...de-lish.  If the sight of toothless old women spitting up masticated cassava into a communal bowl doesn't get your appetite up for some nice charred monkey, nothing will.

I actually sat at a bar this afternoon where 6 people around me each did a Fireball shot and I resisted temptation

Got a bottle off Bulleit Rye so I would stop downing the expensive Redbreast Irish Whiskey.

Meh.

My bottle of Maker's Mark is low. With the cold weather here in CT, it won't make ti til Friday.

Has anyone had the Michter's Bourbon, American Whiskey or Sour Mash?

Do I go for a bike ride tonight in the freezing darkness, or drink the half bottle of Bulleit rye that's sitting in the cabinet while watching the hockey junior worlds final match? This seems like an existential challenge.

It's a decent staple Rye.

I got a bottle of High West Double Rye for Christmas.  Wow, what a whiskey that is.   :az:

DC is fine...McFadden's is a grab-ass hellhole, though.

And now it's gone. Reports are that they will not reopen but instead sell the place - they've already been closed since before New Years when five people got stabbed. Good. I could never stand that place, but it still holds the distinction of being the only place I ever got black-out drunk.

I drive through New Britain everyday on my way to Glastonbury. I drive right past the AA stadium there.

Traffic in the Hartford area is such a breeze.

Anybody want to start a business with me making that liquor where people chew some crap, spit it out, and ferment it? It's pretty much the final frontier in booze trends. I need some chewers. I don't know if I want hipster chewers or people that look like they live in a jungle. Not sure which the consumer would prefer

Get some Peruvians, at least it'll be authentic spit booze

Are you ready for the BOURBON SHORTAGE?? https://www.yahoo.com/food/is-the-u-s-poised-to-run-out-of-bourbon-115951633747.html

All they have to do is raise the price until demand = supply.

In the meantime, Wasmund's (Copper Fox Distillery, Sperryville) is cranking out their unreal 12 month aged Single Malt.  If you stumble into a bottle of batch 115 grab it.

It goes without saying (though the article mentioned this) that shorter aging allows increased production.

Do you have a specific brand?
