Unfortunately, a bunt has to be properly executed to be successful.  You can't assume it's a 100% lock when you call for the play.

Ok, then pinch hit for him.  Jordan Zimmermann could put down a bunt.   :?

Yes, I know it wouldn't happen but my frustration level is rising very high with how he's playing.  That 8th inning GIDP today was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Yea I came here to start this thread. He is a mess right now, and moreover has been for about a year.

He is not an elite bat. Much more suited to hit 5th where he can quietly do his .270/15-20/80 and play gold glove defense. The guy provides zero protection for Harper. Need to let Harper hit 3 until Zim fixes the hole in his bat

It's called a slump. All good hitters go through them.

He's been slumping his whole career then because he is the DP king.

Exactly.  Even with the time he's missed, he's second in MLB in GIDPs.   I'd much rather see Harper or even Desmond in the 3-spot and Zimm moved further down.  Not gonna happen though :(

Two time SS at 3B proves he hasn't slumped his entire career.

He hits a lot of DPs because he hits the ball hard and he's not especially fast.

It's part of his game... And that's not going to change... But neither will his line drive, hard hitting swing. That's a good thing.

That's  not what I'm saying, he's hit well. The DP's are not a slump, the DP's are real - we are agreeing.

I just rewatched his 8th inning at bat and it was even worse than I remembered.  The first two pitches he swung at, right after two walks, were outside the strike zone.  He should have been 2-0 instead of 0-2.  That could have changed the entire at-bat.  He could have played for the walk but instead because he's the #3 hitter, he has to drive in the runs instead of having a smart at-bat.

He's not hitting. He hasn't hit all season. He should not be hitting third

From Kolko:

Quote
Is Zimmerman's shoulder still plaguing him?

"It might be, but he's not going to say anything about it," Johnson said. "He knows his importance to this ballclub, and he's out there as a gamer. I'm sure he'll be fine."

Based on what, Davey?  Wishcraft???

A line drive, had hitting swing means nothing when you're missing the ball or rolling over on it.

Seriously Zimm?

Put him back on the DL. Call up Brown.

A team stocked with OF'ers probably wouldn't benefit from adding another. DeRosa may be a better fit.

Nothing. Davey doesnt think theres anything wrong with a number 3 hitter struggling to hit his weight

Then I agree with Davey. Lots of ups and downs in the season. Zimm will find his way soon enough, provided he's actually healthy.

I think Zimmerman is hurt. He didn't do anything to heal his bad shoulder...he just sat out a few games, and came back. Davey answers the way he should, and the same way Joe Gibbs used to answer questions: support the player, give no information.

A healthy Zimmerman would have more than two HRs. The swings don't look good.

I just want to ask a question, I'm neither high or low on Zim at the moment as some of the other posters, but what does everyone think his upside is?  Does he have a .300/30/100 upside?  He's hit 30 home runs before, hit .300 before and 100 rbis though I don't believe he's ever done it in the same season.  With the injuries potentially sapping some of his strength, what is his upside?

I think it's more than a slump. It's somewhat a regression of skills; perhaps he peaked already and this is what happened.

Reminds me of Austin Kearns to be honest when I watched a young Kearns in Cincinnati slowly fade...due to a bum shoulder
