Strike 4.

I missed the first 3 innings but since I've been watching I've thought the balls / strikes were called better than average.

Kilmer had a decent soft touch, loft it out and let the recievers run to the spot.

Great leader too.

I tried to find some of those old NFL classics about Jurgensen and Kilmer the other day but couldn't. I guess NFL Films guards their stuff and doesn't allow them to be viewed online. That seems dumb to me.

I'm not sure I'd call 3-12 a "mini" funk, Johnny :(

Have you ever watched those guys play?

Jurgensen is one of the best QB's in the history of the game.  Kilmer was a gritty, tough, fiery leader with mediocre at best skills.

People had bumper stickers - I like Billy, or I like Sonny.  Many had both.  That was the most intense QB competition we've ever had here.  Unfortunately Sonny got hurt leading up to the SB7. :'(

As I remember, Kilmer had small hands for a QB. When he got a good grip, he could wind up and throw. Then he would throw some of the ugliest passes ever. Sort of Jim McMahon bad.

Sort of Jim McMahon bad.

Dude was nothing physically (small hands, arms, body) and had a terrible, terrible arm.  Talk about cool under pressure and the ultimate poker face though.

...and, of course, I remember hearing the RFK crowd cheer when Billy got hurt against the Giants, who were leading by about 14 points at the end of the 3rd...because it meant that Crazy George Allen would have no choice...Sonny came in, did not throw an incomplete pass, led the Redskins to about 17 points, won the game...

Unfair to Billy, but nobody let him forget that he was not Sonny. Then Billy retired, and you could sense how often Billy had willed the team down the field.

Famous for throwing those wobblers.  Spirals were not his thing.  Sonny had the spirals.

Kilmer played RB early in his career with SF right?

Pretty much on pace with what he'd be expected to do given the fact that he's one of the most extreme fly ball pitchers ever.

If there was an attack on Nats Park ... after my reaction/experience with 9-11 ... I would completely freak out.

That's why I asked, you're not  :old: .  I would encourage you to continue to try to find old footage if you can.  We've never had a pure passer like Sonny, and he had some fairly weak lines in front and backs behind him.  As far as recievers, Charley Taylor was great, but I always thought Bobby Mitchell was a bit overrated.  Roy Jefferson could play though a bit past his prime when he got here.  Jerry Smith had soft hands.

Skins behind Sonny could rack up some points, but give up even more.   :?
