May 30th, June 7th, and June 19th. Any? Really?

I totally forgot about Wang. I seriously have blocked him out of my memory. But he's long gone... I hope!

I prefer to think of Wang as a honeypot for the jinx fairy.

What You Need to Know

Quote
The Tuesday Takeaway
Sometimes, one play (link to Astros clown play game 1)  is all it takes to describe an entire season. But two such microcosms in two days, and in the same series, to boot? You couldn’t make this stuff up. If this was “the most Astros play of 2012,” then this (link to Bernie's catch game 2)  may well be the most Nationals play we will see this year.

On Monday, Roger Bernadina scored the game-winning run thanks a defensive bungle straight out of The Bad News Bears. On Tuesday, the 28-year-old center fielder preserved a victory with a game-ending grab that may rank among the year’s best Web Gems.

That the Nationals have taken the first two games of the four-game series at Minute Maid Park should surprise no one. After all, Washington owns the best record in the league at 67-43, and Houston, at 36-75, sports the worst. But plays as fitting as the Astros’ error-palooza and Bernadina’s catch can make even the most predictable outcomes amusing.

With last night’s 3-2 defeat, Brad Mills’ squad fell to 0-11 in extra-inning games this season, joining the 1969 Expos as the only two teams ever to suffer that fate. Meanwhile, Davey Johnson’s bunch surged past the Reds, who lost a 3-1 decision to the Brewers, to regain its perch atop the major-league totem pole—a spot it has not held through 100 games since the strike-shortened 1994 season.

MLB Stat of the Day ‏@MLBStatoftheDay
21 times this season, a @Nationals starter has gone at least 6 innings and allowed no more than 3 hits - most in @MLB.

Baseball Prospectus projecting us to go 29-23 over the rest of the season and win the division. Cool Standings projecting us to go 30-22 and win the division.

If we continue at our current 67-43 pace, we'll finish 99-63.

To win 100 games, we have to go 33-19.

That is hard to believe.  I think I had us down as around 85 or 87 wins.  To have 100 within reach and a 20 game improvement from last year is unbelievable.

I'm overly positive and I was hoping for 90 wins, expecting in the 85 range. This season is full of awesomeness.

From Fangraphs, a commenter playing crudely with WAR:

"if the Astros had M Trout, R Cano, D Wright, C Ruiz, J Hamilton, CarGo and C Kershaw they would be 72-44 right now… a half game ahead of Washington for best record."

Think about that for a minute

I'm done saying we have the best record in baseball. After tonight we'll be on a ho hum 9-1 run. I'm to the point where I think we fans have the best team in baseball.

The Yankees kicked our butts in one series, but I'm ready to take in anyone in baseball. Nats can pound anyone in the National League and I would be ready to go head to head with the Rangers, Angels, or anyone in the AL.

Gio and ZNN are beastly. Detwiler and EJax will keep you in the game more often than not. Our offense has shown the ability to slug. With Ian Desmond coming back, this team is ready to compete with any team in the major leagues.

Only question is....

How far can this team go in October?

Do they really have a magical year that takes them all the way?

Thats the fun part. The optimistic believer in me says this is a team that can win a World Series.

The pessimist in me points out the DC Sports curse/my favorite teams never go deep...etc.

I am sticking to the optimistic side with a touch of reality.

They are going to the post-season...but after that its a bit fuzzy.

Don't have my crystal ball out just yet.

Win this one. Doesn't have to be a 14 - 2 massacre. Just win the next game.
