Fantasy Hockey 2008-09
« Topic Start: September 17, 2008, 07:06:51 AM »
Why not, right? Last year was my first year really following hockey, and the fantasy league I was in definitely helped me get to know the players. Surprisingly, it's one of the best fantasy sports. Definitely better than fantasy baseball, IMO.

Here's the info...

10 player head-to-head league.

Draft Date: October 2, 2008 7:30 PM ET (NHL season starts October 4)

Link: http://games.espn.go.com/fhl/tools/join?leagueId=15163
Password: ovechkin

First 9 are in!

The draft is tomorrow and and no one has signed up.

I'll leave it open in case no one saw this before. If four or five from here join, I'll open it up to the public so we can have a full league.

As big of a hockey fan as I am, I can't get into fantasy hockey.

I played a few years ago and won my league but I haven't played since for whatever reason. I don't know nearly enough about the NHL like I do the NFL, MLB, and NBA. I mainly just watch Caps games until the playoffs.

I'm in. It's only the second time I've signed up for any fantasy game and the first for hockey but I'll learn as I go.

I kept the same team name as baseball: D.C. Loxoscelidaes.

Come on! I know at least a couple more people want to do this. cmdterps, you and your brother should both join. Four from here would be SO much better than just two.

Cool, cool. I'm gonna open it to the public at about 3:30 so we can fill the league. Hopefully a few more from here will join by then.

I opened it up to the public. People from here can still join, though. I'm gonna try to get my brother to join as well. I might have to auto pick my team.

I'm in the same boat as you ronny, where I didn't really follow hockey until last year, except for playoff's the year's before.

I mostly like fantasy football, but i'll give this a shot. No clue if i'll be able to make the draft tonight though.

I'm definitely happy w/ my auto draft. I got two goalies in the first three rounds. That's huge. Ever other position has players coming out of no where and doing well each year.

Thanks to everyone that joined!

Each scoring category (even PIM) is just the combined total of all your players. W/ defensemen (the toughest guys to choose once you get past the best ones), you usually want to get the guys who get the most assists and penalties.

You'll get the hang of it in no time. I liked it so much last year that I started about 6 more teams after the first one.

Brodeur was picked first over Ovechkin and Crosby.

Can we do one of those vote/polls to add an IR to the team roster settings?

I'd like the bench to be 5 + 1 IR. Juggling that DL slot was one of the more interesting aspects to me in the baseball fantasy season.

Unfortunately, there's no option to do that. I don't remember that being an option in any of the leagues I played in last year either. One positive about that is it makes people be more active and pay attention to when players are getting off the DL. Hockey players are tough, though. They usually don't stay out too long unless they're are REALLY hurt.

Has anyone noticed there isn't a Box Score tab like in ESPN Fantasy Baseball? Does it get live updates like baseball? Not too big of deal, I just clicked through the Scoreboard tab to see how the first day went but it is odd.

Yeah, they do live box scores.

Here's yours for this week: http://games.espn.go.com/fhl/boxscorefull?leagueId=15163&teamId=3&scoringPeriodId=2&seasonId=2009&mode=h2h&view=matchup&version=full

Why does the team with higher PIM number win the category? Why would you want higher penalty minutes? This doesn't make sense to me.  :stupid:

Even after reading this I still don't buy it.

I asked the same question last year. It does give enforcers a higher fantasy rating, so that's pretty cool.
