How do you earn ABs if you can't get in the game? I'm much more concerned about someone getting hurt.

That's why DeRosa and Tracy got into the game - get them their playing time and ABs. Perez and Leon won't be on the post season roster.

That's fine. But it doesn't mean we can't get the others in to a blowout game. Like I said, with an 8 run lead, all I care about is getting out of that game without one of our core hitters getting injured. Again.

I see the starters for Friday and Saturday are not yet announced. Is there any word on this?

Lannan v. Buehrle would be interesting, they are very similar to each other.

Hire Riggleman.

He got the Nats to 1 game over .500!  Re-sign him!

Hire Riggleman.

Riggleman has shown an apptitude for losing. He might be well suited to the Teddy role and if he quits because Clint isn't taking his calls they can just roll it into the gag.

He's under contract with the Blue Yahoos, we might have to make a trade.

I'm trolling Slateman37, because his Davey hate is driven by an odd preference to Riggles.

It really is amazing to look at how fast Davey improves teams after he takes them over.  It's hard to see anyone else being the NL Manager of the Year.

I think he should be.  But I think if Pittsburgh finds its way into the playoffs, even if it's just the play-in game, it's going to be tough to not give it to him.

It's funny how the Nationals being in first place isn't seen as a greater accomplishment than Pittsburgh winning 85 games.  Their talent is so great that they went from laughingstock to juggernaut in a blink.

I was thinking this same thing last night. We're hearing this from the national media: "Wow, Pittsburgh, Oakland, and Baltimore are making playoff runs. What a shock!" I think the reason is that the Nats have been so consistent all year and have been in first place for so long that everyone is forgetting what the expectations were. Probably 90% of the pre-season predictions had the Phillies winning the NL East, and the others largely picked the Braves or Marlins. Very few people (Mitch Williams!) had the Nats winning or even coming in 2nd with a chance for the WC.

This season has been so incredible that the baseline has shifted upward and upward and upward. They keep grinding out series wins and winning at a consistent pace. If they had reeled off a 12 game winning streak in July that vaulted them from 2nd place to 1st, then the national media would be fawning over them now.  I guess it's better to go under the radar somewhat.

I completely agree

Nats have been the most consistent team in baseball all year long

Bodes well for us I think ...

The Day Davey took over or the day Rigglemind got fired?

Riggs quit.

I know this because I remember ragging on Lorb for what I assumed was a typo on re-sign and resign in a tweet he sent out right after the victory against Seattle.

I'd say the day Davey took over (would have to look up the date...there was that couple of games with John McLaren as temporary manager.

The thing with Davey is that he uses so many players as almost-regulars. The late '80s Mets had several different lineups, just as the 2012 team does. Werth is out? So is Morse? Same with Ryan Zimmerman's shoulder? Harper takes over center...Moore plays some in left, Bernadina plays and shows he has improved, Lombo learns left field and third. The players just keep going.

Something Ron Darling said the other night: Davey never spots an expectation on a player. "He wouldn't say, 'If Hernandez hits .325"...he'd say, 'Well, Hernandez is going to get his 500 at bats, and Gooden and Darling are going to get their 30 starts, so we should do OK'. Davey puts the players in a position to do their best".

Guy who saved 40+ games last year destroys the Dodgers 3/4/5 hitters in the bottom of the 9th last night. Hey, I know, let's not use him to close the game tonight!!!!!

freaking brilliant. I'm convinced Davey is so old and senile that he has forgotten that Drew Storen is back with the team.

Good thing Davey hasn't lead the Nats to 90+ wins this year.
