Arizona will hand the ball Sunday to Livan Hernandez (0-0, 2.57 ERA), who allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings on Tuesday, but did not receive a decision in the Diamondbacks' 4-3, 11-inning loss to the Colorado Rockies  .

Hernandez spent four seasons with Washington - two when the team was in Montreal - before clearing waivers and being traded to the Diamondbacks on Aug. 7. The 32-year-old right-hander returned to RFK Stadium and allowed two runs and six hits in eight innings of a 4-2 win.

The Nationals will counter with Shawn Hill  (0-1, 3.60), who allowed five runs - two earned - and five hits in five innings in a 9-3 loss to the Florida Marlins on Tuesday. Hill's ERA was originally 7.20, but the game's official scorer changed the ruling on a play Wednesday that led to two of the runs being unearned.

This will be the 25-year-old right-hander's first time facing the Diamondbacks.

Livo's homecoming, should be interesting. Livan seems to pitch his best games when theres something on the line, or some sort of motivation. That being said, i expect him to pitch like he did for the Marlins and breeze through our lineup.

I don't care if he used to be here or people still love his fat ass in DC.  We aren't winning without him and we certainly didn't get anywhere with him.

F Livan.  GO NATS!!!

Hells yeah there's some motivation.  Last time Livan was here, he got pounded late for the loss.  He's pissed :)

My guide is showing we'll actually get a pre-game show today, even though the game is on MASN2.

For Nationals starters, Hill's 3.60 ERA if off-the-charts good, considering the others are 6.00, 9.35, 9.82 and 13.50

Who wants to bet Hill gives up a first-inning run(s)?

By the way, Darrell Rasner is starting for the Yanks in the rubber game of the O's series.  I'll monitor that, as that game starts @ the same time as the Nats game.

Interesting.

Flores making his first career MLB start.   Fick is also starting today in place of Dmitri.

son of a nag.. Down early again. more mental mistakes too.  I'd cut Belliard's ass in a second.  He acts like he doesn't give a crap out there every game.

The error was on Belliard but it looked to me like Zimm mishandled the throw?  Anybody else get a better look at the play?

Nothing about ST would have ever led me to believe our pitchers were all so completely crap.  I just don't get it.

its not just that we have been outscored 22-0 in the first 3 innings, its that the things that Manny said we will improve from last year has not improved at all. here Hudson hits a double, the man that Hill hit is home and then Hudson takes 3rd on Belliards error and scores on a ground ball. So instead of man on 2nd out of the inning - we're down 2-0!!!

2 runs on 2 hits for the snakes.  If they were the Nats, they'd need about 20 hits to get that many runs

Exactly, all of our starters that made the starting rotation were more than solid in ST.  What really bothers me is that we make so many mental mistakes.  I thought Acta was going to get this team to focus and stop playing stupid.

actually if yesterday is any indication, the Nats will need 26 base runners to score 2 runs!!!
