I hope I run into a tough battle soon. Everything the last two nights has been a cakewalk. I am getting worried about the difficulty level.

I'm pretty sure you will. I'm stuck right now on a quest. I have to kill a powerful necromancer. I've thrown everything I have at him and he kills me with one or two hits. I can barely get his health down.  :|

PS not sure how much truth there is to this but I've read that higher elevations generally have more difficult dungeons.  Certainly SEEMS to be true based on my journey from Whiterun to Winterhold.

That's interesting. I think my hardest couple of dungeons were at higher elevations.

Yeah I know, but I was bored in line at Chipotle

And as long as you don't mind that you preference makes you competitively inferior, who am I to say that you're wrong? :P

(obviously doesn't matter in a SP game, I just wanted to bust your chops some more :mg: )

I finally beat the Necromancer. His name is Malkoran. Have fun when you meet up with him. BTW, make sure you have lots of health potions, resist magic potions, and plenty of magicka to use your ward spell.  :)

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I just don't find ward spells that useful.  They consume a ton of magicka and don't protect you that much unless you dual-cast, in which case you can't attack.  Better to dodge and use cover, and/or lure your enemy into a rune trap, distract them with a summons, etc.  all while blasting them with your bread and butter spells.  "Fair fights" are really only practical for pure melee characters or lopsided matchups.

On the other hand, it could just be that wards suck for me because I'm focused on Destruction, Alteration and Conjuration, with relatively low skill in Restoration.  Also a matter of preference as I don't like to have to worry about "blocking" during a fight.

Admittedly they do look very cool though 8)

I don't really use ward spells all that much either, but it was very useful in this fight. He had a frost attack that pretty much kills you in one or two hits. The ward spell allowed me to get in close and take him apart with my sword. I blocked with ward, then went in with the sword after he cast his spell. I have one of those swords that steals health from the enemy and adds it to mine.

My character is focused on destruction as well, but my skill level in restoration and alteration is pretty high also. Conjuration is low for me.

Nevermind, that article was incorrect and listed fixes for the release-day patch.  Patch 1.2 is apparently still on track for sometime after Thanksgiving for all platforms.

Yeah, my conjuration has been a bit stagnant since I stopped meleeing and went back to pure destruction.  It's still very useful for summons as they make a great distraction, but overall I definitely shouldn't have wasted time on smithing and one-handed as I'm not in a position of being somewhat mediocre in the magical skills.  I'm doing okay, but definitely still playing catch-up.

Xbox 360. I may just get it tonight, looks like too much fun to wait and $60 is worth it.

I am waiting until cyber monday to find the PC version. Hopefully it drops a little or I will be kicking myself from not playing from day one.

I don't know if it'd really drop at all given that it's really popular and just came out.  But you've already waited until now, so what's a few more days?  You can look me up on Steam when you get it if you want, hellrider1984.

I'm at work, but I'll confirm it when I get off.

Also, i made a few short videos with fraps (30 second limit on the trial version) just because sometimes, the screen shots don't do this game justice.  I'll have to host them somewhere then I'll post them.  Like some of the snowy areas, just looks amazing.
