That's the one.  Real rotgut, best enjoyed under a bridge or on a park bench.

They need to put benches under bridges so I don't have to make hard decisions.

When confronted with such urges, recommend you head home pronto and have the lil' missus whip you up an egg sammich.    :)

I do make a mean egg sammich. But yeah, that stuff was pretty rough.

Best bottle ever

that bottle screams over priced content inside

If we're talking over the top presentation

$1,800 gets you a box, flask and mini-bottle

I am looking for a bottle of this. It is not carried in Virginia though I hear it might be in DC. Anyone seen it?

Call these guys and ask if they can order it. If they cannot, they will probably tell you where to find it. At least that is what happens when I go to the actual store.

I've eaten a few worms from the bottom of the bottle in my day     :?  but I'll be damned if I'm eating a scorpion.

I can see one of those places from my window, must be a sign that it's time to stop answering emails and just get crocked on mezcal while watching old soccer games on FSC.

had some baker's tonight. a coworker had mentioned it. 107 proof. didnt go all in on the bookers though at 120 proof. i think they are both beam products.

lots of burn but lots of flavor. i cant go into specifics like oaky, vanilla, leathery. my rating would read like: lots of flavor, not watery/thin, burny, not sweet.  just take small sips and the burn isnt too bad

Oh the humanity!

Liquor Store Rampage. Liquor store owner Chris Giacopelli isn’t one to cry over spilled milk, but he is still fuming. He is still upset over an unruly customer who burst into his establishment last week

The customer caused a ruckus and then knocked dozens of bottles of booze off the shelves — including four bottles of the Johnnie Blue, whose loss could bring tears to Scotch lovers everywhere.

“Twenty-five years in the business and I’ve never seen anything like it,” he recalled Thursday, sitting in his office in the back of his shop. “Unbelievable, just unbelievable.”

Mahogany Morrow, 31, of Spring Valley, turned herself in to Clarkstown police Wednesday night, a week after the Feb. 23 incident. Investigators expect to charge her with a felony count of criminal mischief.

Morrow is accused of pulling up to Rite Buy Wine and Liquor in the Hub Shopping Center at 6:30 that night in the back of a taxi.

What happened next was captured on a surveillance tape.

Giacopelli said the clerk on duty was helping another customer. After just 40 seconds in the store, the woman from the taxi began complaining loudly that she wasn’t being served fast enough.

The woman then asked to use the store’s restroom.

When the clerk — who said she smelled alcohol on the woman’s breath — refused, the woman turned to leave and, with her arm extended, knocked dozens of liquor bottles to the ground.

I'm not sure what else to expect from someone named "Mahogany".

But that's not the best worst name I've heard recently..."Siphilius" is. Apparently the mother heard the word in a doctor's office and thought that it sounded pretty. I guess it is somewhat fortunate that the legal spelling was not 100% clinically accurate.

Drank some mckenzie rye whiskey from finger lakes distillery. I don'tknow how unique it is cuz I haven't tried a lot but this one had hints of apple and cinnamon. Normally I can't identify tastes like that in booze. Might make sense since they grow apples in ny

Cool, I think it's great when you can pick out distinct flavor notes.  Did you like it?

I gave my brother a Bowman Rye for Christmas, made in Virginia, in part because I procrastinated and had to pick one from the limited selection of a Virginia ABC store.  Had a chance to try it last weekend and really liked it.  I found it to be very earthy in flavor, much more so than the other ryes I've tasted.  Here are the maker's notes:

Quote
Abraham Bowman Virginia Limited Edition Rye Whiskey Unlike any other whiskey, this limited edition release is truly unique. Distilled in our copper pot-still, this first release of straight rye whiskey brings the full flavor, spice and complexity of rye whiskey to Virginia. Six hand selected barrels were chosen from the warehouse after more than 12 years of aging. This whiskey opens with a huge spicy aroma. The rye bursts onto the palate with undertones of mint, cinnamon and tobacco. The finish lingers like hot cider on a cold day.  Our great, great grandfathers would love this stuff. Sip slowly, straight or on the rocks.

Yeah. I'm happy I bought the bottle. Its much different than the other bottles I have/had. Rendezvous, Makers, Knob Creek, Bulleit, and probably the 5 or so other things I have tried recently.

I bought it without tasting it just because I was in the area.

Someone had a bottle of what I understand was incredibly rare bourbon at the last DC United tailgate.  People were passing it around like it contained a holy relic.  I wish I knew more about bourbon so I could place it in context...pretty tasty to my unrefined bourbon palate in any event.

Jack Daniels now has a honey whiskey. Picked up a bottle of it and it isn't that bad. Different from good ole JD.

Take some of this stuff, mix it with some Sprite and put in a lime and you have what I call: Liquid Golden Grahams.

Very similar, but you can taste that JD sour mash taste behind it.
