Game.

 :icon_mrgreen:

:?

A DH batting eighth and our better hitting MI hitting last.  Meanwhile no production remains #1 and #2.

We're in big trouble.

Didn't the team have a day off just 2 days ago? Why does Willingham need another day off?

I'd move Morse up to 5, Pudge down to 6, Berny down to 7, Desmond up to 8 and Harris down to 9 if Riggs is dead set on using those guys.

I think it's a shame that no matter how long Livo keeps it up, people are going to keep shouting about flukes and houses of cards.  I can't deny that I too keep expecting him to implode, though.

Even if he finishes the entire season with an ERA under 3, there are people who will be 100% certain that he doesn't even deserve a second look for next year's rotation.

:(

I don't think what he has done is a fluke at all. He is a master on the mound and relies upon a combination of a great mix of pitches and a chess-master's strategy. He knows how to pitch, uses his defense, and unlike most every other pitcher, knows how to gamble effectively by putting guys on to select a batter he prefers to face. The guy knows how to pitch, and certainly would have been excused for giving up more runs in previous games, despite pitching well. But this is a tough matchup. He doesn't have the advantage of pitching around guys to get to a pitcher, the Tigers offer a dangerous lineup of hitters who are used to AL pitchers throwing more offspeed and breaking stuff on the corners, and the defense behind him is dealing with a more expansive OF to cover.

It's not about things catching up to him, it is about facing more challenging conditions. Certainly, he can do well, I just expect it to be tougher to pull off.

That's not true. AL actually throws more fastballs despite the reputation.

It's not necessarily about what they throw as much as what the batters gear up to hit. It seems that many AL lineups focus on hitting the offspeed and breaking stuff, because the pitching styles seem to rely upon it. Perhaps it is reputation. I certainly haven't kept a log of stats on it. It just seems to be the conventional wisdom on the difference in the styles of the league's pitching and gets talked about so much. If that's a myth that needs to be destroyed, I'm all for it.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/max-scherzers-big-strikeout-numbers/

I found this odd since it is the exact opposite of the Anti-Livan articles. Despite giving up runs and having a huge ERA he is awesome. Personally I feel that if Lannan was even half compotent last night we win that game. Scherzer didn't exactly have a great start despite the strike-outs and they probably helped to run his pitch count up.

I'll go with an even 40 mph for the contest.

I wanted to say 36, but it's taken, so I'll just hope that Livo breaks out the eephus.

I feel as if I've been reduced to looking forward to Strasburg's starts and almost dreading the outcome on the other days.  :hang:

Isn't that better than dreading the outcome every day?

Livan 63 MPH vs Salamander's 95 MPH = 32 MPH difference!
