What was JZ's velocity before TJ surgery?

93.2

He was hitting 94 tonight.

About the same. 92-94
Don't you usually pick up a few extra mph?

Not right out of the box you wouldn't.

The 'real' JZ won't be seen till next year. Most don't get their true stuff back for a year and a half to two years. Some, get it back sooner... but then again, you can never tell.

I believe this is the first time our pitcher has had a better ERA than the opponent in a while.
I guess that didn't last

It happens, but not in all cases. He could still come out next year throwing 95-97, I guess.

Yeah he hit 94 and his ball had good movement...nobody should've expected a 7ip, 0er debut...he was pressing in the 4th and the pujols shot unnerved him a bit.  People forget he is still young.

Cmon bats.

Just when the offense looks like it will come alive, we fall back behind again.  Maybe the pen will pitch lights out for 5 innings.

This is just an awful outing.  Not the JZ I expected to see at all.
First game back in the majors after TJ, I'm not worried about it at all.

I would've kept JZ in for one inning.

Great approach guys.  1 pitch outs with a pitcher with a high pitch count. Why is Willie Harris on this team?

That POS deserved it. The one thing Marquis has over Lannan is batting. Marquis is one of the best hitting pitchers, and Lannan is one of the worst.

Now Carpenter comes back out and shuts us down, after they take the lead.   :icon_frown:

Not really.  The damage that leads to a Tommy John surgery can occur over a course of a few years.  Most players that claim to gain velocity are simply returning to the speeds they pitched at before the onset of the injury.  In some cases, it can take as many as 4 years to regain the pre-injury velocity.

Marquis is hitting a buck sixty.  Not like he is Dan Haren out there.
