because he is a superior defensive catcher and they are about a wash offensively.

Riggleman is worse than Manny, because he won't play my favorite pet bum ass players.

Wil Nieves is just as much of a bum defensively. he is terrible at calling games.

I'll grant you that Nieves is better defensively.

Offensively, it's not even close to being a wash.

Nieves Career: .228/.271/.293
Bard Career: .266/.334/.393

Nieves 2009: .261/.303/.306
Bard 2009: .266/.345/.371

Nieves is a great back-up catcher option. But he's not a starter by any reasonable measurement. granted, Bard wouldn't be here if Flores was healthy, but now way Nieves should start every day. Nieves is the very definition of the "weak-hitting all defense" behcn player that you accuse Nyjer Morgan of being.

and anyway, while you are doing all this nagging about Nieves not starting, he's started 33 of our games. Bard has started 32.  They are pretty much in a straight up 50/50 platoon. yet you are nagging and moaning as if Bard is starting 95% of the games and Nieves gets no playing time.

wtf is your problem?

Bard has been starting the majority of games over the last few months. Nieves maybe gets 1 start a week.

Nieves is a fine back-up catcher. Bard is not because he is fat, slow, and terrible defensively. It's not like he's a great hitter or something.

Nieves is a fine back-up catcher. yet you think he should be starting every day, instead of being a back-up catcher.

yeah, cause Nieves blazes the basepaths.

Bard doesn't need to be a great hitter. He's a better hitter than Nieves. and while Nieves is better defensively, Bard isn't as "terrible" as you say he is.

Bard is 6'3" 215. what a Dmitri Young-esque fat-ass.  Nieves is 5'11" 190, just for the record.

I sense much hate in you.

the fact is, neither Bard, or Nieves is a starter-catcher quality player. But our starting Catcher is injured, so we gotta make do with what we have.

I don't know exactly how to quantify someone as being a better defensive catcher than someone else, maybe Minty may want to chime in on this.

but I'll note, for the record, that Both Bard and Nieves have the same amount of Passed Balls, and the exact same Caught Stealing %. (22%) Nieves has more Errors (4. Bard has 3). Bard's FP% is higher. (.984, Nieves has .981) Nieves has twice as many Assists (24, Bard has 12).

and lastly, Nats Pitchers have a 4.99 ERA when Bard is catching, and a 5.45 ERA when Nieves is catching.

neither is a starter-caliber player but Nieves is the better of the two.

the fact is that Jesus Flores is the most important player to the success of the Nationals. him going down with that freak injury ruined this season.

ronny...wtf do those people have our athletes wearing?

I'm not a professional fashion critic...but sweater tied around the waist, with shorts and a collared t-shirt?

da freak???????

must be a rich, old, white person magazine. no offense to any rich, old, white people on this board.

freak, they couldn't have put those guys in a nice suit or something? they look ridiculous. especially Zimmerman. he looks like he just signed up for his first semester at Bayside High.

If JMad's stats are correct and Bard only has 32 starts, how can he possibly have started the majority of games over the last FEW months?

That's the country club/yacht look.  Zim's got a nice baseball tan going in that second picture.  Possibly some of the worst pants I've ever seen though...

I'm not surprised to see Zimmerman wearing that stuff, but Orakpo?! That man's crazy.

Zimmerman's one goofy dude.

(Image removed from quote.)

that's the most bad-ass Hayden Christianson will ever look in his life. In that scene where they are marching up to the Jedi Temple, Hayden looked like a stone-cold evil bad-ass mofo.  in every other scene in the prequel trilogy he looked like a whiny nag.

started 0-7 with Flores.

yeah, we'd be bound for the playoffs for sure, if only we still had Flores.

 :panic:

I don't understand this debate. So we're 10-14 (.417) when Flores starts. We're also 10-12 (.454) when Lannan starts. Our record is 25-61 (.291) when Zimmerman starts. Does this prove that these three are nothing but pure losers?
