Editorial comment: Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" is exactly that.
On the other hand, their debut album, titled simply "Dire Straits", is a brilliant multi-layered, smoky textured monster LP in which Knopfler was unashamed of his skills, and played with unrestrained abandon.
Down to the Waterline, Six Blade Knife, the incomparable Sultans of Swing, and my favorite - Wild West End. You can see the smog, feel the dampness in the air, taste the warm lips, the hint of stale beer.
There's not a dog on the album, 9 incredible tracks.
