Great way to sum it up

"Standing at a sturdy 6’6″, with a high waist, square shoulders, long arms and powerful legs, Giolito has the look of a young Roy Halladay. He is a rare athlete for a tall pitcher too, showing great body control, awareness and balance. His mechanically sound delivery is simple and repeatable, with a clean arm action

The high school right-hander entered the year as one of the most talented draft eligible players, but suffered an elbow injury in March. “I’m confident that this issue is behind me,” he said the day after the Nationals selected him.“I’m looking forward to getting on the mound soon.” Giolito's fastball can reach 99 mph and he sits at 94-96 mph, according to Baseball America. He also throws a plus-plus curveball and a plus change-up.

The Nationals spoke with doctors at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, where both Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann underwent Tommy John surgery. The familiarity with the doctors made the Nationals comfortable with Giolito’s health. Giolito is currently throwing long toss and playing catch on flat ground.

Looks like the Nationals got a steal, and potentially the best prospect in this years draft. He'll immediately jump to the #1 spot on the Nationals prospect list and I would be shocked if he wasn't a Top 50 prospect in baseball.less"

Meyer is # 17.

The other #s I've seen for Giolito were 34 and 11.  Ooops.  I also saw #49 for Team USA.

Nationals Sign Giolito For $2,925,000

The Nationals were able to come to terms with one of the best talents in the 2012 draft class by signing righthander Lucas Giolito for $2,925,000.

Teammates with lefthander Max Fried at Harvard-Westlake High (Studio City, Calif.), Giolito was considered to be a strong candidate to be the first-ever high school righthander to be picked first overall. But a slight tear of his ulnar collateral ligament in March in his right elbow kept him out of games for the rest of the season. He began throwing on flat ground in early May and fell to the Nationals at 16th overall in the draft.

When healthy, Giolito sits in the mid 90s with his fastball and even touched 100 this spring. His curveball is a well-above-average pitch that sits in the mid 80s and he also works with a plus changeup that is 82-84 mph.

Would be hilarious if we did - especially if we're drafting at the end of the first round.  He is another Boras guy, though.

Oh, he'll throw a little, tear his UCL completely, and do the TJ thing. Nothing to worry about. ;)

I'll admit that as the deadline was approaching, I was getting a little worried there.

Just wish they'd do surgery now and not lose 9 months in recovery time. Like with Solis.

+1

Why work with a partial tear. So far, Zimmermann and Strassburg have done OK after TJ.

Great news.  Possibly a better arm than we lost in Cole.   He has some risk obviously like Purke does but, all in all another great add by the farm system.  Now we just need to get Rendon and Gio healthy.  Such a good feeling.  Appel rejected the signing.  He's going to be a late first rounder next year.

Boras seems to have a pretty good relationship with our FO though.

MarkZuckerman: Plan for Giolito: Go to Viera to work with rehab coordinator, will decide eventually if he's ready to pitch in minor-league games this year.

I still think our SPs should all end in 7... 17, 27, 37, 47, 57.

Zuckerman was on the radio saying he doesn't expect him to pitch with the current crop when he was asked about time lines, that may be an exaggeration, but if he takes 5 years, maybe not

4 years + TJ surgery is my assumption. Kid's 17, in 5 years he'll be making a Strasburgish debut in terms of timing.

Yes!  So glad to be wrong.  Interesting total.  Paid some tax, but not the full amount without giving up a pick.

So glad I nailed it.  :mg:   I'm starting to think Rizzo likes to see the WNFF crowd  :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: on draft signing deadline day.

(Or maybe he just likes to fight over a few hundred thousand bucks to the end).
