They are announcing a sell out crowd for today with even SRO seats sold out.  In the past the team has called a game sold out with several thousand seats below capacity listed as the official attendance, but in this case with the standing room tickets they might have actually sold as many as they did for the Philly games last year.  Do we set the attendance record today?  Or is the announced attendance significantly lower than official capacity?  I say somewhere in the middle with just over 40K as the number.

Currently great tickets on StubHub are going for less than half of face value ($15 for 116 row CC which is a $50 ticket at full season prices before service charges), somehow I got lucky last night and sold a few extras for just under face value.

I'm not even bothering to list my last two available, I'll just sell them to a scalper at the game, if anyone wants them PM me on this site.

If the team gives away 1500 tickets, for example, in a stadium that seats 41,500, they will show "tickets sold" as 40,000. And MLB reports that number as "attendance". Then ESPN will look at the "attendance" of 40,000 out of 41,500 and report it as 96% of capacity. Teams now always report that tickets sold number.

A while ago (1980s?), one league reported tickets sold and the other reported a turnstile count which resulted in vastly different attendance figures. So, the league put their pointy heads together and decided to both report the higher number.

 I pulled $20 of profit per ticket after fees on $10 tickets. I guess the market crashed at some point. I still would have rather made it to the game.

Close enough - published attendance was 40,907, about 600-700 short of a 'true' sell-out.

The lines for the bathroom in the outfield area were ridiculous. I made the mistake of telling the jerk in front of me that I might not make it and the mohterfreaker took his time and almost got pissed on.

There were sections in the upper deck that looked totally empty though.

Could be lots of people speculating on seats.

The Red Loft was packed, or so it looked. Also, at Nats Park, there are always several thousand people on the concourses. At least it seems that way.

Also, as revealed when Deadspin published the previously private financial statements of a number of teams, we learned that paid attendance is a standard metric that is incorporated into financial reporting due to its direct relevance to understanding ticket sales revenue changes.  Thus, these numbers are subject to external audit review and thus can be expected to be reasonably accurate.

That really sucks.  I just tipped the Stars and Stripes Club pissboys an extra $1 and got first class service.

Tomterp im @ red loft looking for you

Well, it is traditional for us to meet before the game in the Loft, but then head up to our seats before first pitch.  Sorry you missed us, I wore the Balester jersey just so you couldn't find me again.

The lines were crazy long after the game, fortunately there was no line in the Yards parking lot.

Traffic getting out of DC was the worst of any Nats game I've ever been to.  That extra inning bringing the end of the game in line with the peak of rush hour was a killer.

Pretty awful.  I arrived at noon and the lot by the So. Capitol Street bridge was full, so I ended up parking on the street 5 blocks away over by Ft. McNair.  At least it was free, and my car didn't get broken into and I needed the exercise.

We parked in the Cement plant lot and they closed the gates about three cars behind me - this was after trying to get a space under the bridge, at 11:05. Full.

I'll take Metro next time its likely to be really crowded and its during work hours.

I regret not confirming that was you. But I tried that one other time and ended up talking to a dude that only looked like tomterp.  :?

OT, I was listening to 106.7 on the way in and I never realized that those dudes (can't remember who was on at the time) don't know a freakiong thing about baseball. They are even worse than the ESPN talking heads. I know some of you get pretty angry about the ESPN people and I almost understand the frustration after what I heard on the radio today. Also, on the way out I overheard a conversation in the bathroom in which one dude was insisting Zimmerman should be charged with two errors for the play in which he sailed the throw to 1B because the runner ended up on 2B.  :?

Well, after a call that was supposed to end at 11 went past noon, I said to the client, "I'm out," and hung up.  Walked to archives, got to the park 20 past, slid over to the LF entry to get my hat, ran up to the Loft and missed everyone except the Turtle.  Still caught Blue & the Mrs., MDS and Mrs. Morse, and Salty in the S & S club.  Had to go back to work after the game :hang:

Gio was just awesome.  Also, I loved Espinosa first at bat.  to take a 1-2 count 11 pitches and draw a walk was just awesome.
