Ramos will be ready for ST, apparently.

Nice pickup, all in all, if he finds himself with the bat...we're in business. If he even marginally improves on his numbers, it's a win too, seeing how Flores has been playing, sadly (I was rooting for him to be the man again).

As in, providing much of anything.

JF was a beast before his career got wrecked by that injury. It's really a shame.

I agree with jersey and linty about Ramos.

They mentioned last night on tv Wilson had just had his ACL re-constructed earlier that day.

Maybe the news from the docs wasn't great. Otherwise, it's an awfully big coincidence.

Wilson had his surgery three weeks ago. Is off crutches and in a brace/etc., still a long way to go for him, but they are still saying that he'll be ready for Spring Training.

I do find it funny that the Nats traded for the only catcher with a worse wOBA with at least 230 PA's than Flores, in Suzuki.

Having said that, Suzuki strikes out less than Flores and may be able to pick up a few key RBI's if we're lucky.

While Suzuki has been completely garbage this year, you take a gamble when Flores is the best option available.  It would have cost more to get Shoppach from Boston.

Agreed. Remarkable in the fact that he was able to even return at all from his terrible injury.

Agreed. In addition to throwing well, I remember a lot of hard line drives down the 3rd base line...

6.45 next year.

Yeah, plus the rest of this year ~~ $8 million?

Also has a vesting option for 2014... where if he catches something like 110+ games, he gets 8+ million.

I must have misunderstood Bob and FP, then.

Glad to be wrong.

This is a pretty big deal.  I guess Flores' days are numbered -- at best he's a backup for the rest of 2012 (though IMO the backup should be Solano when healthy).  And then's gone for 2013 because Ramos/Suzuki/Solano is already catcher overload.

Perfect then as a split-timer with Ramos as Ramos gets back to 100%.  And let's not forget about Solano, who is 26 (almost 27) and was crushing the ball (in only 35 ABs, I realize) before he was injured.

Love the Suzuki pick up for Washington. No offensive upgrade, but all sorts of non offensive ones.

Adam Kilgore ‏@AdamKilgoreWP
The A's indeed kicked in money for Suzuki's contract. Mike Rizzo clearly sees him as a multi-year player for the Nats.

It's not like we got a 25 year old Pudge, but it's an upgrade over Flores w/o giving up a whole lot. Decent move but nothing to pop champagne bottles over.

Will be interesting to see if/how Suzuki's departure affects #athletics pitching staff. They praised him regularly.

Well that will never be allowed to happen, I'm sure. It's actually guaranteed at $9.25 million with 113 starts...but someone should get fired if he vests a $9.25 million option.

His splits are interesting. OPSing .499 against RHP this year, but has a career OPS against RHP of .705, 60 points higher than against lefties.

Don't know how you drop off so dramatically against RHP but not LHP - this year's LHP stats are right in line with career averages.

Nothing special, but big, physical catcher with good idea at plate. “@L3HM4N: @Kevin_Goldstein thoughts on David Freitas?”

I thought this comment on MLBTR was worth pasting over here.

Quote
I'm an A's fan, and Kurt has been my favorite player basically since the day he was called up. The guy is a gamer. Hustle/heart/David Eckstein kind of player. He may not wow you with 500 ft homeruns but he is a natural born winner, that's why they've been calling him Kurt Klutch since his days back at Cal State Fullerton. The man just shows up in the clutch time and not to mention he calls a great game. I've never read anything but positive reports on his defense and more importantly even his game-calling ability. He's always had an excellent report with the young Oakland staff and I can't imagine it'll be any different in DC. Good luck Kurt, we'll truly miss you in the Green and Gold.

This is one of those minor moves that is going to be huge come October, I promise you.

Pretty interesting pickup... The cool thing is that he feels like a solid MLB catcher, rather than Flores and Leon.
