Had a GburgNats kind of weekend at our cabin near Thurmont this past weekend:
In addition to the usual suspects hanging around (chickadees, titmice, goldfinches, etc) we spotted:
A male and female Thrush
Two male Rose Breasted Grosbeaks hanging out together (no sign of a female - hmmmmm)
A female hummingbird (to go with the male hummer who came to the feeder last weekend)
A black and white warbler
A male American redstart
A female Pileated woodpecker
and two real dazzlers - a male indigo bunting and a male scarlet tanager.
That's the best birding weekend we've ever had up there in over 8 years since we've had the place.
While running on a local park trail we came across two copperheads sunning themselves on a stone fence - gave them a wide berth.
And other the other end of the animal scale, Sunday morning we found a HUGE bear plop about 100 feet from the cabin - there's one big bear wandering around this year! Haven't seen him yet, but keeping an eye out.
