IDK if this has been posted or not and I can't be arsed to look.  Slightly NSFW as there is a use of "the s-word"

Skyrim continues to impress me with its depth - you can make your own arrows using firewood that you chop.

I got a pickaxe and mined my own iron ore. I've also done some cooking.

Wow, talk about incredible attention to detail

Interesting. I had some interaction with an NPC (Cicero the jester) the other day that made me wonder if there was something else to come.

Yeah the mining and using the ore to smelt ingots to make your own gear with is cool too, though I haven't come across very many mines yet.

There are two in Dawnstar. You can do everything there. Mine, smelt ingots, and make weapons/armor. Pretty cool little town, except for the weather. The snow was really coming down when I was there.

BTW Chief..I got the flame atronach spell while plundering a cave. It was on one of those undead skeleton/zombie things that populate most of the caves/dungeons.

I've just been sort of slowly expanding outward from Whiterun, but mostly to the west and south, so that explains why I haven't seen that.  Farthest north I've been is Silent Moon's Camp.  How are you liking the Atronach?

Awesome sidenote - there are dual-wielding kill animations.  Just attacked a wolf with a mace in one hand and sword in the other.  Hooked him by the neck with the mace and held him up while running him through with the sword

Why it takes me forever to finish any quests:

To the right:  road onward to quest objective
To the left: random mysterious cave.

Better check it out... :hammer:

To be fair, there are some pretty sweet looking caves:

I keep watching my brother play this on his 360 and I want it! :(

Btw Chief, how the hell do you make arrows? Everything I've read you can't yet.

Sadly I found out that that arrow making thing was a mod.  Apparently the data for making arrows is actually in the stock game files, but didn't make it into the game for whatever reason :(

Ok, yeah.. that's what I read. Still, the game looks like a lot of fun.

Is the unintended effect something that happens no matter what?

Chief likes killing children

And to be fair, Bethesda did make them annoying as freak for something you can't slap around.

What Nathan said.  Most of them are asking for it

Jokes aside, why put children in a game that's supposed to be about immersion and then make them freaking invincible?  It's preposterous.  If you're RPing a truly evil character and want to eliminate all witnesses to your crimes, that's going to sometimes include kids.

Not that I am, but I can absolutely see the reasoning behind a mod like this.

Chief likes killing children

That little girl put a hit out on me.  She started it.

I WANTED TO FINISH IT

 someone on reddit challenged a guy to fill a house with potatoes.  Unfortunately, the game crashed when he got up to around 4000 potatoes.

Here's another reason children shouldn't be invincible:

If a snow cat attacks, how realistic is it that the invincible kid draws all of his aggro while I shoot him to death with fireballs?

Are there any other massive games that don't require me to be an Orc or a wizard?

You don't have to be an Orc or a Wizard in Skyrim.  There are several human races, and you can go straight physical attacking...

...but I'm assuming what you're really asking is if there are any such games that aren't in a fantasy setting, to which I would respond "Try Fallout 3"

Well, in Skyrim you can be a Breton, Nord, Argonian (lizard), Khajiit (cat), Bosmer (wood elf), Dunmer (dark elf), Altmer (high elf), Redguard, or Imperial.

You can play as anything, you could use a one handed sword mace or axe with a shield, or use 2 one handed weapons at once, or use a 2 handed great sword or warhammer or axe, use a one hander with a spell in the other hand, use a bow, be sneaky and use daggers to sneak up and assassinate people.  Whatever.

Fallout 3 is pretty big, isn't it?  From what I understand it's pretty much like an Elder Scrolls game except in a post apocalyptic DC with guns instead of magics.
