Phillies Series (5/2-5/4)
« Topic Start: May 01, 2014, 03:20:15 PM »
Rather than one for each series, I figured we could use this as a catch-all.

Just looked at the probables.  This is going to be interesting:

5/2 - Strasburg/Lee
5/3 - Roark/Burnett
5/4 - Gio/Hamels
5/5 - JZ/Kershaw
5/6 - Det/Trienan/Greinke

Bad idea as this will get incredibly long and unyielding in just a few series.

You're kidding. Really? Four of the ten best pitchers in baseball. Murderous. I'll be happy if we go 2-3.

it'll be kershaws first start back from the DL. maybe the confines of nats park will rattle his already rusty nerves. last time he faced a MLB hitter was in austraila and the ball spins the other way there. kind of like the toilet flushing thing.

Struck out 9 in 5 innings, throwing 86 pitches in his last rehab outing at AA.

If the need arose, we were gong to do single series discussions (like we did for the Braves/Marlins a while ago) so let's do that instead. I'll change this to the Phillies series.

All is right with the world right now, we are back in second place, only 1.5 games back and the beaten up Braves have a tough series against the Giants this weekend. For some reason I am terrified of the Phillies. Someone please toss out some positive stats at me to make me feel better. We can do this right? If we get swept by the Phillies there is a good chance we will be in the cellar on Monday morning...please someone reassure me

Need to take 2 of 3 from both Phillies and Dodgers. No excuses. Nats need to win some low scoring games with great pitching.

it gets worse, beyond greinke we face Haren, Gray, Kazmir, & Chavez.

This is going to be our first true test, if we can get through this stretch at .500 or better I'm happy.

such irony that we have Haren in a list of "tough tests" for us

and you guys are not doing a very good job of making me feel confident. You are supposed to be piling on facts about how many times in the past we have kicked the phillies butts. I have spent the last 3 nights terrorizing my Braves fan husband. I cant go down like this

Man, I'll just be happy if they let us play baseball after the sure embarrassment that's about to come.

That seems like a decent stretch compared to having to face Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Clayton Kershaw

I saw Cole Hamels get rocked by the Mets a couple days ago and it will be Clayton kershaws first game back.. and he may not be able to go deep and command may be off a bit. Dan Haren might suffer PTSD in Nats Park and be the Dan Haren we know and love. All our guys have to do is pitch well and field cleanly. We can do this.

Bad news for those pitchers. There is a storm a comin'.... And he is looking fierce....

Take a look at their lineup. Other than Utley there's alot of mediocrity there.
