What Makes This a Successful Homestand?
« Topic Start: April 17, 2014, 11:08:29 AM »
So 11 games at home, 4 against a team that will be another NL playoff contender, 3 against a pretty talented Angels team, and then the Padres.

So the question is, sitting 1.5 games back from the Braves, what would you say would make for a successful homestand? Is 6-5 enough or do we need to do better? Is it simply anything that allows us to not lose ground on the Braves (who have the Mets/Phillies/Reds in the same time frame)?

Just curious, for me I just want to stay within a couple games of the Braves while we have a tougher portion of our schedule. 7-4 would be ideal, I could live with 6-5, anything less would start to get us into a hole early.

I'm not sure if you were implying this but the Padres are a pretty decent team in their own right. All of these games will be tough. I agree a 7-4 or better would be great. Anything less will simply be coasting at best.

Not losing ground on the Braves. I don't expect to gain durring this stretch. If we do, great.

Was really meant as a dig, to be honest I don't know a ton about their team or their expectation for this season so I wasn't sure how to describe them.

I'd like to see 7-4, but these are good teams and 6-5 would not make me pull my hair out. It's waaaaay too early in the year to worry about closing the gap for the division lead. Right now we just need to worry about playing good baseball and winning more games than we lose.

11 games at home, have to take advantage. Need to go 7-4 or better. Starting with going 3-1 this weekend vs St. Louis.

Let's freak the Cardinals up first, then the Padres.

At least there will be no Kozma this weekend since he got sent down. Taylor Jordan holding his own tonite will be the first giant step. We've gotten to Wainwright before, we can do it again as long as our guys remember that they know how to swing a bat.

.500 against the Cards. Two out of three against the Padres. Win a game against the Los Angeles Trouts of Anaheim

Three series wins.

Or at the worst, two series wins and a split against the Cards.

Add a poll to the thread? For me nothing short of 7-4.

I'd be okay going 4-7 provided the Braves go 0-11

Padres and Angels are both below .500 teams.  No excuse for not winning both series.   And no excuse for not winning 2 of 4 against the Cardinals.   7-4.

I'm in the 7-4 crowd.    That would be successful.

I said 7-4 in my "YNOT" prediction so I'll stick with that, of course I haven't gotten a single point yet in any other YNOT predictions so what the heck do I know   :|

No one being lost for 4-6 weeks.

This is really where the Nats stand. They're down 3 starting position players and Harper looks like he's headed for the DL. The Cards are healthy and Padres have had 6 weeks to fix their rotation.

EDIT: The Angels are banged up so there shouldn't be any excuses to not take 2 of those games.

winning record.  This is a pretty good test of whether or not we can beat good teams that aren't based in Atlanta.

I think we win the series against the LAA and SD. I don't see us taking the STL series. 1-3 or 0-4 is more likely. I hope I'm wrong.
