spidernet, are you telling us that most other manangers would have, given the same set of circumstances, done what Frank did?

You can't believe that!

no i can't say that conclusively...but are you telling me that no other manager would've left him in there? i myself would've pulled him for a pinch hitter but considering this bullpen maybe he (traber) felt he could go another inning and in reality he could've been out of the inning except for some buzzard luck...then you would be praising him for pitching 7 shutout innings....it's all about excuting, but it goes both ways, one team fails to execute and the other team capitalizes...how many times have other teams failed to spot their pitches but go unnoticed because our hitters failed to execute?

You see, none of that matters.  The manager should always make the right decision, especially when they're easy. And, again, making the right decision doesn't ensure a good result but that's not a reason not to do it.

Look at the evidence:

It was the 7th inning.
Traber had a rough 6th inning.
His pitch count was 85.
The pitcher spot was due up with a runner in scoring position with less than two outs.

Making the right decision in this case was so easy, for so many reason.  I can't imagine the thinking to make the wrong decision.  Every question the manager should ask himself would make him pinch hit and go to a reliever.

It was late in the game.  The pitcher had a bad last inning.  You were likely only going to get one more inning out of him, in the best circumstances.  And you had a chance to drive in a run.

This decision was so easy to make it makes me angry that someone wouldn't be able to figure it out.  I can take a lot of crap from people but I can't tolerate stupidity.  I can take evil better than stupid.
