That's a good line to open up with. I used to say to announcers (Bob Prince as an example) "Thanks, well done." I was amazed at how much he appreciated that and seemed genuinely a nice guy. However, I heard he could be a real prick after a few adult beverages.
Ran into Ray Knight (almost literally) on the concourse and I shook his hand and said "How are you, Ray. I'm a big fan." He was extremely nice and seemed appreciative but didn't slow down.:~)
