GCL franchises are the least expensive to operate because they normally work out of an organization’s spring training facility, which usually has dorms or a nearby hotel for players to reside.
That's a huge factor for consideration, not to mention convenience to major airports, etc. If a scout, trainer, coach, etc. wants to visit the GCL team, they hop on a direct flight to Orlando and they have an hour or less drive to the complex. Also, some of the developmental folks and others in the organization live in or around the Orlando area. I really don't see them dropping a GCL team for a lot of reasons. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't pick up another team.
