It's one thing to believe in your team when they have the potential but let's be realistic. What more do you have to see? I'm not the kind of person that is going to believe we're good just for the sake of believing or because it will make me look like a better fan or because I think it somehow will translate into curly W's. Again, when they start trading blind belief for on field production I'll change my screen name to pollyanna.
Likewise, to give up when you've seen the team turn things around is unrealistic. There have been far too many "this game is over" posts by people who simply quit and whine about everything. There have even been people who gave up on series several days before they even started (the Twins - the Sanata game in particular).
Some of "lack of faith" it is not understanding of the adjustments made when you face a good pitcher or one who is having a very good game and have to expand your hitting zone because you aren't going to get your pitch. If you wait 2 pitches, you're down 0-2 and really in a hole. Some people don't understand that you need to be more aggressive against those pitchers, and they make some misguided comment about not taking four or five pitches to wait on your pitch. While those kind of comments are generally appropriate when facing most pitchers, they don't seem to understand that when a pitcher is on his game, if you try to wait for 4 or 5 pitches, you've probably struck out. If you wait 2 pitches against Smoltz, 56% of the time you are facing a 0-2 count (37% a 1-1 count, and 7% a 2-0 count), and then 48% of the time you've Kd on the 3rd pitch.
