Thanks to Dibble for speaking the truth about AAA stats both from a pitching and hitting perspective. Stats in AAA mean very little, and mean less depending on the age and experience of the players involved. Martin doesn't seem to be pitching badly, but his AAA stats weren't going to survive in the bigs. This ownership and FO just needs to wake up and realize that sitting back and waiting for a farm system to bear fruit is not going to produce the way that they think that it is. It doesn't work that way. If they were being agressive in improving the system it would be one thing. But if you aren't even trying to improve the farm the way most other teams are, you are simply maintaining the current status or even backtracking.

SSB, remember when Kasten said they'd be investing money in international scouting and signings instead of FA's?

Well, he never said how much. Most of the money they "invest" seems to simply hire low-paid incompetent staff (aka "baseball men") who travel around and look at players the team will never doing anything about. And then when they spend the money, it is always the least amount possible for the best result. it's an ongoing commitment to mediocrity at every level.

Martin goes 4.  Now we get 5 innings of the great Washington bullpen.

I'm so glad I rushed the kids off to bed for this.  I actually thought we had a chance tonight.

How'd Martin look (numbers aside)?

A lot of strikes. Missed the corners early on, though. He really didn't look too bad. His curve is nice.

It's a new show on the Disney Channel.  It's great!

It's a show with a stuffed bear who goes around helping kids perform mundane tasks like tying their shoes and mailing letters.  Only they do it in a watered down "James Bond" style.  And they even name the episodes after Bond movies.  TOTALLY COOL.

But if you aren't even trying to improve the farm the way most other teams are, you are simply maintaining the current status or even backtracking.

That's true, generally, as far as AAA stats go but there's also a chance that the stats will translate.  You don't know whether a very good AAA pitcher will pitch well in the majors until...they actually pitch in the majors.  You just can't assume the numbers will translate.

As far as building a franchise, I'm so tired of this idea of acquiring prospects.  This team does not need more prospects even assuming the farm system isn't particularly good (which I don't believe).  This team desperately needs major league quality players much more than prospects.  If the Washington Nationals team doesn't actually have to play games then acquiring more prospects to the detriment of the ML team is the perfect plan.

But the major league team has to actually PLAY GAMES and look at the results of what the major league roster is producing!  :spaz:

It was kind of death by a 1000 cuts. He did get hit, but he also gave up a series of groundball hits, which as a groundball pitcher making his rookie debut, may not be what will happen normally. Can't be thrilling to have an infield of Belliard, Guzman, and Harris, when you are a groundball pitcher.

I know you said numbers aside but I felt he looked like number 2.
